Jayco 1006 Roof Weight Limit

Hi, I am new to the RV'ing world - long time camper. I just bought a 2010 Jay Series 1006 P/U. I am sure I will have a lot of questions in the coming months but for now I am hoping someone can help me.

I am trying to find out how much weight can be placed on the roof when it is in the lowered/travel position? The one I bought has an A/C unit on top already but I am looking for a way to haul 4 or 5 bikes or a canoe on there. I have designed a roof rack from plastic piping that I am confident would spread the load and not damage the roof but I cannot find anything that gives a weight limit, there is a sticker by the crank handle that says something like "remove all loads before lifting roof" which would imply you can carry stuff on there but I cannot find any specifics.

And help/advice would be appreciated - Thanks Rich.

The roof on your pup isn't meant to be weight bearing the way a travel trailer is. I do recall the warning in the owners manual about weight, but don't think they state a carrying capacity. The roof rack bars for these trailers attach at the edge rails of the roof top with lag screws and transfer all the load to the roof perimeter (no load on the roof surface).

The 2009 1006 I purchased has a double bike rack on roof, the rack is supported as mentioned in other reply by rails going to side channels. the bike racks slide from side to side, and when I bought it I asked him why they were so close together? He said they never carried bikes, He used them to carry firewood. The integrity of the roof is good, as long as you don't try to pop up with weight on it.
