Jayco Qwest bunk poles

Hi.

I'm a new owner of a 2002 Jayco Quest and I have a question about the poles that hold up the canvas over the bunks. Are these supposed to be bowed....by bowed I mean the center where the shepherds pole attaches is further out than the corners of the pole. I ask because it does not look like the corners go all the way to the seam when the center is at the seam. The corners look real tight because they are about 2" - 3" from the seam of the canvas.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

Welcome to JOF.

You're correct. Something doesn't appear right there. That support for the canvas end should be in the seam that goes all the way across the top- at least that is how they were on the Coleman I owned. Can you post a picture of how it looks on the inside so we can see what the canvas end support poles look like? It would give a better idea as to why you're having this problem.

I wonder if the canvas is an after-market replacement? Had a pop-up for several years and can't imagine a situation where the poles would bend, so my bet would be on the canvas.

Thanks for the responses...I'll try to get some pics of the inside up this evening.

This is a replacement canvas but the original canvas did the same thing as this one is.

Here's a couple of pictures of the Coleman Laramie. Although this is not a Jayco brand, it provides an example of how a typical pop-up should look and might help you figure out what's wrong with yours so you can correct your problem.

Notice that the canvas is arched above the rear window.

As you can see, the arched aluminum frame in top of the rear window fits into the seam of the roof and rear window canvas. The aluminum center roof support pole (sometimes referred to as a "candy cane") is adjustable to allow for variations in the canvas.

Looking at your photos the fit sure looks suspect. When I google 2002 Jayco Quest, the photos I saw of these campers also had canvas that looked loose.

Maybe someone who owns one will have better insight.

Good luck with your new camper

It looks to me like the bunk end pole is bowed. When you lay the pole down on the mattress it should be strait, or flat against mattress. If it is not flat then it had been damaged and bent.
