Jayco sport hard sided A frame

Hi,
Just checking to see if anyone has been camping in the Jayco Sport hard sided pop up camper. We just picked up our A frame and will be taking it out on our first camping trip. Just trying to get back any feed back on your experiences with the unit.
Thanks

I look forward to reading your experiences once you've been out with it. While I think the solid concept is neat, I was concerned about lack of storage space and a lack of air movement inside the unit. Did you purchase your's at Ricks RV?

Hard side pop up

Hi,
We purchased the jayco hard sided at ricks rv. Great service department there too. We like the easy set up and take down, no canvas, but all the comforts ie ac, heat, hot water, micro, three way fridge, outside shower. No potty but we picked up a portable for night time or bad weather. There is storage below, accessible outside or from the inside too. Small, but enough for my wife and me. Can sleep a couple of grandkids if we bring them on short trips. There is an optional electric vent on the roof, and the side window and door have screen to get air flowing. We can also store it in our garage for the winter. It's a step up from our tent camping days.
Our you working or retired FD? I have friends that worked at Schaumburg FD.
Will keep you posted when we take her out for the first overnight trip.
Jeff

We purchased our 1007 UD from Rick's RV last November, looking forward to our first trip out in a couple of months. I am a retired firefighter/paramedic, I retired nearly six years ago following a thirty year career with the Lombard Fire Department. Thanks for the info on your camper, I'll be watching for more once you've enjoyed your first trip out with it. Enjoy!

We got our A frame last summer and love it! Easy to tow and park and seems to generate lots of interest in the parks. Still need to get a porta potty and enclosure for for nite trips. Added a battery gauge to keep tabs on the battery and added a solar charger. Also changed all the interior bulbs and porch light to leds.

The first time we viewed an A-frame, it certainly grabbed our attention as well. The concept is terrific and I do look forward to learning more about how they are working out for their owners.

Storage can be an issue we are learning to take less as we go. We don,t have the screen room we use an EZup instead.DW thinks we should get the room but I am unsure after reading some of the comments on other forums .

This is our first experience camping with a popup, so we will be learning through trial and error. We have yet to begin moving in to the camper yet because weather isn't cooperating, but we have been planning what we want to bring and what will not make the trips.

We bought our a-frame in October, and have had it on 4 trips, now. Just got back from FL. Heat pump AC underperformed on hottest day. Ours was salvage, so I am suspecting a coolant leak, since it worked great when it wasn't so hot, and on the hot day, the compressor kicked on and off as usual.

Angry DON"T do this with your A-frame!

Forgot to mention: We put a spare tire bike rack on our camper (DO NOT TRY THIS!) and the tire, rack, and bikes fell off. Fortunately, this happened as we backed into a campsite, so no real damage to anyone or anything. The spare tire is put on with screws instead of bolts. We were going to beef it up with some bar stock and bolts, but we can't get to the spot on the inside. So we plan to buy a hitch bike rack that has a ball to tow the camper with.

Thanks for the tip. I remember the dealer telling us not to install anything on the rear bumper, as its not designed to hold weight.

Keep an eye on your A/C condensate pan, Jaycos wonderful craftsman didn't use the correct drain parts supplied by LG. They ran 1/4" tubing that kinked so it won't drain and it overflows the pan and water runs out by the tire. I removed the A/C vent cover and installed a thru-hull marine drain by drilling a hole in the bottom of the pan and now it drains great. If not corrected the floor will eventually rot.

Hi, we have a 2016 Jayco. Sport 12H. It has a "heat pump" rather than an AC unit. Does the heat pump have a condensation pan like an a/c? We have used the heat pump tomcool the camper in Utah and everything seemed to work well. Thanks

Yes all the Aframes have a heat pump which is an A/C unit that will also create heat and they sit in a condensate pan, its called a Coolcat. If you look on the outside of the trailer you have a large grill on the outside of the A/C unit, just below it coming through the floor just behind the grill you will see the drain tubes. Check them on a hot humid day and they should drip water, if not it is running over on the floor inside under the bed.
