New Arrival

This is our recent Pop Up purchase. '02 Jayco 10v Qwest. This camper has been heavily used, as it was a rental before the previous owner. Thers are a few loose screws, and plenty of cosmetic blemishes- but absolutely ready to camp right now. The front door needs to be fixed up, and I have the upper door insert in the house now to replace the actual plastic as it is cracked, and duct tape isn't our "thing". Probably go with Plexiglass (if i can find the right thickness) then paint the inside leaving a glossy look outside. There are a few outer shell(canvas) issues, but they are small and they will be addressed once we get a chance to clean her up and out. Winter seems to want to it's feet this year, so hopefully I will get a warm and dry window soon to get some cleaning and organizing done- I figure that even though my fiance and I have a few mods/projects in mind that just getting a few trips in will get us thinking about more.

Bottom line is, the floors are solid, there are pretty much no leaks (a couple seams) no water damage, the mattresses are in excellent shape, and there is no gross smells. I got an unreal deal, and this was a purchase from a close friend. Prefect scenario presented itself, and we are completely stoked to have the project...and to not be on the hard ground anymore!

I'll be sure to keep the progress shared here, Cheers

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your awesome find!! You'll be able to fix that stuff easily and at little cost and end up with a camper that's really YOURS!!

Make sure you go out and get a composition book to log your experience. Start with the camper purchase and continue with each trip...where you went, what site you stayed on, all that stuff. Be specific with all the details. Trust me you will really enjoy pulling that book out in the dead of winter and re-living all your days of camping.

I just wish I had started my logbook when I first started camping

I was quite surprised at your photos, you made it sound like the camper was falling apart. It looks so nice. If it does have a few bumps and scrapes, that's good, you will not sweat when you put one in it yourself.

Happy Camping

Got her open today to sweep out some crust and kill a resident black widow the size of a thin mint. Also got a few pics of some upcoming work....and keep in mind, nothing here is keeping me from setting up this weekend in the woods for my little girl's very first camping trip. Here.We.Go.

First three pics show issues with the lower front door. The insides are toast, thus the duct tape holding the bottom trim in place. This causes a couple issues- The bottom trim has to be supported with duct tape. The door sags, since the hinge mounting hardware has nothing really to bite into. You need to play with the door (not alot, but a bit) to get it to shut square. The upper door doesn't stay completely linked up after totally set up( due to the saggy bottom half). I have a buddy with some leftover sheet PVC x 3/4" thick that i think would work nicely here.
The latch seems fairly new, and works fine-but is a tad loose and shifts after a firm door shut.
Next, the interior paneling is pretty eaten up along the bottom edge, If I cant make a repair that leaves a nice enough looking fix, I'll need to replace the panel while the door is on the workbench. I totally do not want to take the door completely apart, but we'll see.
Last, there is a pretty decent gap left above the lower door when the camper is stowed. It appears there used to be some sort of seal on top that has deteriorated at some point (see photo), I 'll check a couple local RV joins for availability/pricing on that. Til then, a piece of pipe insulation will do.

The last two pics show the upper door insert. This should be a very simple fix, but the replacement material has me scratching my head. I'll bring in whats left of the cracked piece with me to Home Depot or Lowes to see whats on the shelf. Dixie RV told me it would be pretty pricey to have an entire sheet of the stock material shipped. In the last pic, it shows a small tab at the upper corner of the insert-does anyone know if this is how I remove the top trim piece?
Thanks for looking, all of the warm welcoming, and any ideas that could be of consideration. Until next post, Cheers! P.S. Tonight it is Mission St. 2014 Anniversary Ale, 8.5% ABV

I think you are on the right track. Just keep in mind that these rigs were built by people who aren't exactly mental giants so the assembly methods are rudimentary at best.
