New to all this, need battery help

Hello everyone, new here with dumb question. I just bought a 1997 jayco Eagle 10 UD. It needs a lot of work, especially with the electrical system. My question is, will I be able to use the battery to run the electrical sockets? For example, could I plug in a small electrical heater when I am out in the wilderness, or do I need to be hooked to electrical?

Thanks for any help.

Aaron9000, typically, the A/C outlets work only when the RV is hooked up to power. If there is an onboard inverter then the A/C outlets will work from the battery.

To add to the above you need a large battery bank and an inverter unless the inverter is just a small <300Watt one and all you are doing is charging phones or something.

What do you want to be able to plug in?

A heater is a very heavy draw and is not reasonable to run off a battery bank for any amount of time. You would be better off running your furnace or using a buddy heater or something.

normally sockets/microwave/air conditioner only work when on shore power, because those take a lot of power and would require a big power inverter with a huge power bank.

for your example
running a 15 amps heater on DC battery power would take 150 DC amps (if you don't take into account the loses from the inverter) so a good battery with 40 usable amps, would last about 15 minutes.

Thanks for the help. I think I understand now. One more question though. Other than the lights, what can you power with just the battery?

The stabilizers, the fridge on gas, the furnace for a while depending on the battery condition, The co2 detector, the radio, the tank indicators, the water heater on gas.

since you have a small popup, not sure what you have
if equipped with a water pump, that works on 12v
if manual ignition fridge works on propane without 12v
if automatic ignition fridge, needs 12v for control panel on propane
carbon monoxide/gas detector needs 12v
radio needs 12v
if manual (pilot) water heater, no power needed
if automatic water heater, needs 12v
