new to jayco

hi picked up a 1006 pop up recently. Its a 2006 very good shape a few minor quick fixes and she was ready to use. my question is a bout winterizing the unit. the manual is pretty vague when it comes to the water heater. Im not seeing a shut off valve to block the heater itself. if I run the pump it just going to fill the heater tank so do I use rv antifreeze in that as well as the plumbing system? Any help would be appreciated.

welcome

Pics are always great

If you do not have a bypass system ??? you still do everything the same.

pump the antifreeze throughout your system and then when you are done pull the plug on the heater and drain it

you could maybe collect the antifreeze in the heater and re use I guess.

there will be 6 gallons

hi still working on pics been reading this forum for a few weeks and just joined and getting everything up and running

no bypass system or valve so that's how well do it makes sense. so the other lines will prime before the water heater is filled? if the sink faucet is open once I get rv freeze up to there I should be ready to close the valves and then drain the heater. thanks for your help I still have a couple more months of camping just getting prepared for storage time as it will be parked outside

you could drain the hotwater heater and just blow the lines as well...thats all some do.

But for all a bypass kit involves I would install one.

Sorry. I might not have been completely clear. You drain everything like you normally would (low point drains and hot water heater) but you will have to plug the heater again and fill the system with antifreeze then drain the heater at the end. It will take a lot

yea that would be a lot im just going to install a bypass is that as simple as installing a valve in line to the WH. if so where at I think the WH has a check valve somewhere to prevent backflow of hot water back into the tank not sure though

Drain the system including water tank. Blow out the system with low air pressure. Dump some antifreeze in the traps. Done. If one does not have a compressor I would recommend purchasing one. You would be amazed as to how often you would need it.

I agree, a HWH by-pass is a nice feature and comes in handy...., especially should you have to address an issue with the HWH while camping and maintaining water supply.

Just a FYI........:

2006 Jayco PUP Owners manual winterizing procedure w/o by-pass (p. 96 & 97):

http://www.jayco.com/files/downloads...ilename_94.pdf

2014 Jayco PUP Owners manual winterizing procedure w/By-pass (p. 8-5):

http://www.jayco.com/files/downloads...lename_201.pdf

In the 2014 Jayco owners manual, note the Jayco recommendation in respect to RV antifreeze and the associated HWH.
