new to the camping world

i just recently purchased a 1997 jayco 1207 kb jay series pop up and i'm looking for some help/advice on troubleshooting the camper. we are new to the whole camping thing, so we decided to start small and then eventually, work our way up.

1. how do you check the converter to tell if it is still operational or not? the a/c blows really cold on the 30 amp plug, but nothing else works on it. the lights work on battery power and so far the frig works on 110 from an extension cord plugged in to the house.

2. we were lowering the camper in preparation for a storm and i heard a pop. then when we tried to re-reaise the camper, the left rear corner would not raise. does this mean the cable broke?

3. any help/advice on replacement parts etc. would be extremely helpful.

thanks to all that assist. the camper needs a little tlc and we are ready to get out there and enjoy it.

thanks

ray

Hey viper... welcome to the JOF. What model converter do you have?

The pop may be a broken cable, or one of the bards may have slipped back. Before taking it to the dealer, try lubricating it to see if its jammed. Also we have found it helpful to get a quote before we agree to any work..

Welcome to the pup forum!
Converter query- when you plug your a/c (refered to 'shore' power) line in, the converter (should) automatically turn on. Since you have a 12V battery on board, you may need to disconnect it to test for converter function. Once the battery is unhooked, plug into a/c power and see if your LP detector and interior lights are working. You should be able to hear the converter fan running (might have to get on the floor and put an ear to it- they are fairly quiet).

If your air conditioner is working when plugged in to a/c ('shore') power, then all your a/c outlets should be working also.

As far as the lift system goes, I have no clue! I haven't encountered any problems yet (knock on wood) with our lift system. A Call to Jayco may be in order.
