newbie to pop ups

so the wife and I bought our first camper. it is an 01 qwest 10x. everything works great! the only problem I have so far is that i hooked up to city water and before I could do anything it blew the spigot off of the sink and was shooting water to the ceiling. I have cleaned and dried everything but what did I do wrong? any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like to much city water pressure for the system to handle and the weak link failed. What you need is a pressure regulator, this will control the pressure on the system when hooked to city water. You should also have a fresh water holding tank that will delivery water from an electric pump.

Congratulations on the Qwest and welcome to the forum.

RVs are generally designed for water pressure of 60psi MAX. Like Sundancer said, your pressure was high and found the weakest link.

Inexpensive RV pressure regulators are available at camping stores and most W*marts.

Sorry you had to learn the hard way, but it happens to all of us in some shape, form, or fashion. I seem to have had more than my fair share of oops moments!

As others have said, a pressure regulator put inline before it gets to your pop-up is the way to go. Most of the inexpensive ones don't have a whole lot of flow, but you're not going to need it in your PUP anyway. More water in means more water out...and if you're in an area where dumping of gray water is restricted...that means hauling more gray water to the dump station.

Glad you found us! We started out in a PUP as well, moved to a 25 foot TT, and then to a 36 foot 5th wheel. The camper the kids remember the most though was the PUP. They loved that thing! Have fun making memories in it.

Another possibility is that your kitchen faucet is also the pump.

Press it down and it screws shut. That is when you can hook up city water. Then use it like a normal faucet.

However. When the fresh water tank is full and not connected to city water, unscrew the faucet 2 or 3 turns and then lift and push to pump water from the tank into the sink.

I'm guessing the faucet was in pump mode when you connected the city water.

First mistake from inexperience. We've all been there. Expect plenty more. We will laugh at them together! Later.

Thanks for all the replies and responses, I will look into that this week and it sounds like I need to buy a pressure regulator.
