popup lift winch

We just completed out first trip with the 94 1006 pop up. Over 2000 miles and 8 days. The little Jayco performed great and we had a fun time

The last day, as I was lowering the top the crank started to catch and jamb. In the attempt to get it fully lowered the shaft that the crank fits into broke off at the winch end, (four tack welds).
My question is .... how hard is it to access the winch......?
Is there an up grade (different winch), that can be performed .....?

Thanks for any help or advise.

Will.
