Spare tyre problem

Just a heads up.I have a 2010 Jayco 806.The spare tyre would not hold pressure.It turned out that the tyre was damaged just by the way they are mounted on the bracket at the rear of the camper.It had not ever been fitted and looked brand new.Taking it off and checking told another story.

That looks strange to me. Cracking just because of the pressure against the bracket? A crack to me would seem that the rubber is breaking down, but i'm no tire expert. Did you take it to a tire retailer.

It is strange as it does not actually touch the bracket,i am guessing that there is enough flexing when hitting bumps that it then comes into contact although it is a pretty solid bracket.The tyre has always had a cover on,the damage is on the inside so it's not UV damage.The shop that fitted a new one suggested that it my still be covered by some warranty but i did not pursue that.
I just want owners to be aware that there may be a hidden issue with their spares.

Last year we had a tire that lost half its tire pressure after a few days at the campsite. I topped it up for the ride home and it never lost any pressure but I then brought it in to the dealer and they checked out it. They found nothing wrong but it is now my spare and its never lost air since. I have received manuals for everything but the kitchen sink and the tires.lol. I asked about tire warranty and I believe they said they were covered under the two year trailer warranty. I was glad to see they were not old as identified( near )the DOT number (2711) week 27,2011.

Yep,
A good idea to add spare tires to Spring check list.
I pulled mine this Spring, inspected and primered and painted the inside for surface rust.
I also found a couple Wasp nests that are good to get out from under the cover.
It could be an unpleasant surprise to need to change a flat and run into a Wasp nest.
