I am finally able to pass along some info about a fix for the ONAN 5500 series generators, used in our Precepts, stalling problem. If you have been reading this forum for several months you may remember all the talk last summer about gennys that would suddenly stop running while driving. There was much discussion about oil level, running temperatures and other things we blamed this issue on. My 35UN was chronic and spent a lot of time in the shop working to solve this problem.
What was found was that the bowl vent on the carburetor was located in such a place that when fuel was sloshed thru the vent it was being directed into the throat of the carb and flooding the engine to a stall. This would occur when stopping briskly or turning corner with enough side force to cause fuel to overflow the bowl.
