I learned the same thing from D&MAKAFUN and it works great for us too. We typically run at "8" and carry some of those larger solid blue ice packs for to use in a small cooler on day trips in the tow. I put them on the freezer floor under the ice maker and then the ice cream pints on top of them so they are closer to the bottom of the ice bin and in the back of the freezer. Gives us nice solid ice cream!
We also found that putting soda or beer cans/bottles at the back of the top 2 shelves of the refrigerator partially freezes them (nice mess when you pop the top), so we put those in the door and leave the plastic drinking water bottles we carry on the back of those shelves.
