The sail switch is the switch with the attached triangular paddle that goes into the exhaust tube. The switch has a red and an orange wire going to it. Try moving the stem of the sail forward – does it move freely, and spring back into place? If it doesn’t, try to free it up by adjusting the exhaust tube. If it won’t free up, let me know. Have someone turn on the hot water, and manually move the sail stem forward again – does the water heater fire up? If not, let’s try to jump the sail switch, and to do that, please follow this sequence:
1) Turn off the on/off switch
2) Turn the hot water on at the faucet
3) Unplug both the red and orange wires from the sail switch
4) Hook up your jumper wire to the red wire
5) Turn the on/off switch on (the fan should now start)
6) Connect the other end of your jumper wire to the orange wire
Now the sail switch is jumped…..does the water heater ignite?
