I used 4-22 AWG wire to connect the actual meter to the shunt. Instructions say to use 16-26 AWG wire depending on the distance from the meter to the shunt. My distance was only 6-8 feet. 4 wires is all that is needed for a single battery bank. The meter does have the option to monitor an extra battery and then you'd need 5 wires. In my case I color coded green & black wires to go to the ground side of the shunt. Eventually all ground wires that previously would have been grounded to the negative post of my battery bank will also be connected to this same side of the shunt. The red wire goes through the wall and is connected to the positive post of the battery, with an in-line 1 amp fuse. The Yellow wire is my "Signal" wire and is connected to the other side of the shunt which will also eventually have a single ground wire going from that post to the negative post of my battery bank.
