A/C Question

Hi,
My A/C unit has three fan settings. Two low, and one high. Why the two low speeds? I tried looking in the manual but did not find anything. Is one fresh air and one recirculated?

Thanks for the advice! The battery project is lower on my list. I used to run 2-12v optima batteries on my 1969 Jeep CJ-5 with a selonoid so both were charged but I could pick which battery to use....
