When I open relief valve water splashes all over...

When I open relief valve water splashes all over everything as opposed to the drain plug...not sure if this will hurt anything

Teflon tape was always for gas connections I thought

I got a 15/16 socket and extension for mine...so I hand insert it and use the socket to tighten...I do NOT torque it down...
