what defines camping?
wife and i having dinner with two other couples, when the subject of camping came up. one couple says if you are not in a tent, you are not camping. other couple has a motor home and wife says husband rarely goes outside and is bent if he cant get perfect reception on the tv set. we started in a tent, then Apache pop up then large tt, and after some years with no rv we now have a light weight tt. we prefer to spend as much time as possible outside while camping, but still like to have a warm, dry place to sleep and a clean bathroom to use. i think what ever you like to do is fine, but brings up the question, when does camping stop and rv ing begin?

When the rigs gets over $100,000 . Seriously, camping is different things to different people. It ranges from backpack camping to a full blown Prevost. No matter how you camp we all do it for the same reason, we enjoy it.

My dictionary says a camp is:
"A place with temporary accommodations of huts, tents, or other structures typically used by soldiers, refugees, prisoners, or travelers."
A "temp" TT sounds like camping to me!

It is different for each person. For my BIL 'roughing it' was slow room service. He only came and visited us at the campground.

I do everything from back woods backpacking to a nice TT. Anytime I can get away from the house and enjoy nature and new scenery....I am camping. IMHO don't let anyone else define something for you. I have friends that call camp taking all their Grandkids to France lol.....and that is ok!

We put quotation marks around camping when we go "camping" now.
Anytime you go "camping" and you have a campfire you are camping otherwise you are RVing.

Camping, regardless the mode of transportation or housing, is spending quality time with your family and friends and away from the hustle and bustle and stresses of regular life. I don't feel the least bit guilty for buying our TT instead of continuing to rough it in a tent. Camping gives you the opportunity to be adventurous or lazy. We've had some of the best conversations with our kids while sitting around the campfire.

Everybody has there own definition of camping and I won't put anyone's viewpoint down. This is my first year with a travel trailer with my previous 40+ years was spent in either a tent or pop-up trailer.
Speaking only for myself, I define camping when the day ends with a campfire. I define RVing when the day ends with a Television. I'm not taking my son to the great outdoors so he can can stay indoors and watch TV or play video games. So far (cross my fingers), he and my wife are OK with my definition of camping.

I guess we are camping any time we are not home. That would be 110 days in our Jayco and 3 days in our house this year.

Camping is what you do when you arrive. RV'ing is how you get there using a motorhome.

Cooking all of our meals and eating outside; taking walks & riding bicycles; sitting around the campfire long after dark; then going in our RV to rest our tired bones in a nice bed so we can get up the next day and do it all over again
