Under belly cover

Hi I am new to the forum and it seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. I have already learned a few good tips! Has anyone ever removed the under belly cover on a Fifth wheel. I have a 2006 325BHS and I have a sag in one area and I want to get a look underneath the trailer. Thanks in advance for your response and I look forward to sharing with you all.

Welcome to the JOF, jayeagle12. I don't own a 5'er so I can't answer your question but I am sure someone will chime in.

If it is like our travel trailer the cover is just screwed on. If it has a sag it could be full of water so I would check it out.

Mine is sagging all over but I used an ice pick and punched some holes and found no water. Looks like they sorta wrapped it around external pipes and what not and didn't really make proper cut/fits. Then they filled the excess with spray foam. I have been in the fiver since October and I am going to take it in for some warranty issues when i get back to WV.

I removed a section on my 5th wheel to replace a valve on the black water tank last year. Putting the cover back on was not easy. Hard time lining up screws with original holes. And there were a lot of screws. No clue on what the sag is, but I would suggest following the advice of the folks above. Good Luck

Before pulling the cover, make marks on the cover aligning with marks on adjacent covers to help aligning it back up when replacing.

Removing the screws will be much easier if you use a reversible drill and the appropriate bit.

Ditto on making marks to help you align the bottom cover and also just to find the holes. Once the bottom cover is roughly aligned, use a small probe or ice pick to locate the hole in the metal and help you further get the hole in the cover aligned with the hole in the metal. I found it was far easier to start the screw with a manual screwdriver and to finish up with the drill.

I suggest you get a handful of extra screws from your Jayco dealer; I think they cost about 10 cents each.

If you have to rip out spray foam when removing the cover, get a can or two of spray foam. If you have to use the foam, paint the cured foam flat black - the foam is not stable in sunlight; the paint will protect it.

By the way, don't remove any more of the cover than you have to.

Well everything looked great I think I just need to add a couple of extra self tapping screws to get rid of the sag.

If the underbelly of my 5er ever sees the sun I've had a VERY bad day.

Well, I certainly agree with that. Frankly, it always amazes me and I'm grateful when I go on a 2500 mile trip and nothing bad happens.

I paint the foam because the sun can come in from the side and deteriorate the foam spray; besides, it looks better. As a plus, if my trailer ever goes upside down, I'm sure people will say "Look! He painted his foam!":hihi::
