The Need To Wax or Polish Fiberglass-sided TT

I have been told by a couple of RV dealers that there is no need to wax/polish my fiberglass-sided RV. What are your thoughts on this? An RV is a valuable asset, so I want to give it the care it needs.
Thanks,
Shane

Are the dealers making payments? No. That's a sales pitch IMHO as some people are turned off by the mentioning of maintenance. I wax mine 2 x a year and fiberglass will fade in as little as 2 years if not maintained. Once it starts to get chalky you are in a tough palce to revive it back to new.

With waxing the dirt comes right off and there is a level of UV protection. I think the amluminum sides will take more of a beating without waxing due to the paint used vs fiberglass IMHO.

I am a type A when it comes to maintenace and cleaning of my toys so maybe I am over the top...but when I go to resell stuff it usually goes fast.

I waxed mine last month and it was a job to do but very pleased with the results. Already could use another wax job but way too hot out right now. You can tell just by looking around at the campground those who take care of their TT and those who dont.

I agree. If you want it to wash easier and look good wax it.

It takes me a year to wax my truck and 5th wheel.

I was already cringing a little when I read, "I have been told by a couple of RV dealers"....I knew this was going to be a doozy.

Oh sure, to varying degrees dealers are capable of telling the truth, but generally choose not to if a lie will serve them better. And, to lie so blatantly and so often, they have to not care at when they get caught in a lie. And, they don't

How many posts have said, 'My dealer said I can tow a ____________ with my ________.

Yeah, you need to wax it.

Or, you could opt for the spray on potion that dealers offer in conjunction with a warranty when you buy your new trailer. You know, the stuff that only a dealer can apply, and they can't/won't tell you what it is or what's in it.

Wax it.....

We use Zep Heavy Traffic Floor wax on ours. So far, very good. No yellowing, just a beautiful sheen.

I am wondering how I should go about waxing the top half - the part I can’t reach by just standing? Any suggestions world be appreciated

Another recommendation to wax for protection of the finish and helps when washing it. Luckily I only have to use a 4’ ladder to reach everything.

I use an extension ladder with a water pipe insulation tube taped to all surfaces that touch the trailer.

Not sure I understand. Are you’re talking about PVC pipe?
“Taped to all sides that touch the trailer “ could you please elaborate, any pics available?
Thank you

I use a tall step ladder. Nothing touches the trailer.

If you use an extension ladder, you should pad it somehow, so it doesn't mar your fiberglass. The pipe insulation isn't PVC pipe, it's the foam wrap that can be put pipes. Looks like a small pool noodle. Another solution is to put old tennis shoes on the ends of the ladder where it contacts the trailer. Anything to pad it.

Or, just use a tall step ladder.

Sorry, no. I am talking about the sponge type insulation you would use around hot water pipes to keep them warm. Look at this link. M-D Building Products 3/8 in. x 3/4 in. x 6 ft. Tube Pipe Insulation Kit-50150 - The Home Depot

I just cut to length and tape with electrical tape. Have never had a scratch on any of my vehicles using this method.
