Adding Fireplace to Trailer

When we ordered our trailer, I kinda wanted the fireplace but I also liked the big picture window. When DW found out that the fireplace was a $1250 option, she did not want it and said she also would rather have the big picture window. After camping a few times using the heat, I thought that the fireplace would be nice to have. I remembered looking at other campers that stacked the TV and fireplace in the same cabinet, so I started looking to see if I could do it. Well I did it and here are some pictures.

Before

Work in progress

First try in fireplace fitment

Finished fireplace

It turned out really nice. It warms up the room nicely and is quiet running. I was able to get a full two inches of clearance between the back of the fireplace box and the front of the TV when down.

I wish Jayco would have made our fireplace like that. I miss the window in the back of the trailer. Your wife is right, that is a lot of money for an electric heater.

Remember they had to take out the rear window and fiberglas over the opening so they could put it in.....ROTFLOL
I have the pop up TV and rear pic window... would like the fireplace but I rarely stay at a place with hookups.

Very nice! If you don't mind me asking - roughly how much $$ do you have in that?

Nice clean looking job! My only concern is heat coming off the back of the fireplace might damage the TV when it is down when the fireplace is "burning." That might be the reason the TV gets put above the Fireplace in the Jayco option.

Even if the fireplace does throw off enough heat to damage the TV (I'm hoping it doesn't), the easy fix is to don't use it unless the TV is raised. Being the anal old bi...broad I am (not to mention absent minded), I would rig an interlock of some kind so the heater couldn't come on when the TV was down.

$300.00 I got the complete mantel/fireplace kit at home depot. I had to put it together. As I put it together I had to deside were I wanted to trim it down in heighth. Overall I had to trim about 5 inches in heighth. I also adjusted the TV mount to gain a couple of inches in clearance there.

no chance of that. It is an electric fureplace. Just has a blower throwing out the heat. When the heater is on the back of the box stays cool. It is also child safe. I wanted to be sure because I have two young grandchildren who ocasionally camp with us.

The 351RTLS comes with that same arrangement standard. We have been very pleased with the fireplace option and the tv going down behind it. The Dimplex electric fireplace is a nice touch. If you aren't using the tv, it is out of sight and the FP has no effect on it when stored in the down position.

I meant to add that it does look like a factory installation. Hope you have many years of enjoyment from it.

edit: I just realized I can't edit my previous post.

Good to know, other forums I frequent with the same software allow it any time. Will look more closely.

Some forums do, some dont. The Admin of the forum decided to make it 15 minutes so you could go back and correct mistakes - but not go back after a bunch of folks have already read the post and make changes. That usually will cause unintended consequences in posts down the line.

If you have a post that you made a mistake in that really needs to be corrected, feel free to contact any of the mods and we are glad to help you out.

I love the Jayco Mods Forum! What wonderful (and less expensive) options come from it providing 'knowhow' to those with the time and talent (I have the time, but not the talent LOL). GREAT JOB dlFeather! Great pics also
