Jayco Model Number and Actual Length

From time to time the question is asked as to how Jayco comes up with their model numbers and how those numbers relate to the actual length of their units. I decided to query Jayco directly and get an answer once and for all. The following quote came today from Cressida Burkus, Jayco Customer Service Specialist :

"The Model number is not the length it is just a number that Jayco comes up with to differentiate all of our many models we have here at Jayco."

Now we know - the model number, such as 29 RLTS, actually means nothing related to actual unit length. Although the prefix number means nothing, a previous query to Jayco revealed that the letters actually DO relate to the model - in this case, RLTS means Rear Living Three Slides.

Hope this satisfies everyone's curiosity.

do you happen to know what the 28DSBH stands for? I got the BH (Bunk House) part of it but not the DS.

Hi jdorant,

I have a 30 DSRE and the DR means dual slide. I would assume your also has dual slides?

Hi Again,
I forgot to mention, the 30 DSRE has a 30' box and measures 33' 11" from bumper to receiver, that means that the length of the a frame is 3' 11" longer than the box. On your 28 DSBH, if you add the 3' 11" frame to the 28' box it would make your overall length 31' 11" as is the length that is listed in your floorplans.
Cheers, Ron

Yep, I think the DS stands for double or dual slide. Mine for example is a 314 BHDS, bunk house double slide. While Jayco does not "admit" to the number designation, if I had to guess I'd say that the 31 in 314 designates it as a 31' model. Not necessarily exactly 31' but in that catagory, still trying to figure out the 4.

Ah, you have the trailer we wanted. all the #'s gotta mean something. Our DS stands for "deep slide". Only 1 slide on ours. And the BH "Bunk House".

If you believe the CS Specialist, the 314 actually does not mean anything other than something that Jayco "came up with" to designate that particular model, and none of the three digits have anything to do with length. And for anyone who wants to know exactly what the letters stand for, all you have to do is go on the "contact Jayco" page, ask them, and they will respond within a day or two. Then you will know for sure, without having to speculate. Hope this helps.

I tried to find a total length of your 314 bhds in the 2013 jayco line up but it must be discontinued. My guess was the 314 refered to the box length being 31' 4" with the total length around 34'. I could be wrong.

Yes it is discontinued, last year was 09, you have to look in the archives to find it. You pretty much pegged it. I've never measured the box length but the total length tongue to bumper is 33' 11". I call that 34'!

So my 36REQS means........ Rear Entertainment Quad Slide? That was a wild guess. I really have no idea. Or does it mean that my Ram Engine Quietly Sleeps? Any help here would be appreciated.

I would guess the "E" could probably mean "Entry", as in Rear Entry. Just a guess w/o looking up your floor plan.

Mine is a 351RLTS, (rear living triple slide). I was told once that the 351 referred to sf of living space. That may not be the case now.

Your correct,

You have 4 slides on your trailer, just can't figure out the 36 considering that your trailer is 40' 1" long.
Cheers,

Ron
