Roof warranty?

I was looking at a used 2010 Jayco 29RLS. I asked the sales man if it had a warranty, he said it comes with a 2 year factory warranty but didn't know if that was only to the original buyer. He also said Jayco trailers come with a 12 year warranty on the roof, but didn't know if that was only to the original owner also. This from Richardson RV suppose to be one of the biggest Jayco dealers around. Does anyone here know the warranty situation?

As far as I know, the warranty is only for the original owner. I purchased my trailer when it was about 6 months old and I did negotiate a basic warranty through the dealer for major appliances - but anything through Jayco is probably not going to be honored.

I would assume the warranty is non-transferable. But I do not know this for a fact. However, I do know I would not want to deal with a salesman that does not know the score. I would be skeptical of any promises made.

Personally, I always treat warranties as a perk. If they work fine. But my purchase economics disregard warranties.

From the factory web page...

Each Jayco is warranted to the original purchaser for twenty-four (24) months or twenty-four thousand (24,000) miles (mileage limitation applies to motorized products only), whichever occurs first, from the original date of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship.

The 12 year warranty is provided by the EPDM rubber roofing material manufacture, not Jayco. It only covers the actual rubber roofing material, not the structure that supports it (outside the Jayco 2-year warranty).

A lot of dealers will tell you what you want to hear until they get your money.
The sales people know what the warranty covers. If they aren't going to be up front with you, I wouldn't deal with them.

Yes, my warranty literature also says that both the general and the roof warranty are to the original purchaser only, and furthermore, that owner must have sent in the registration card within 30 days to activate the warranty. Sorry, but don't think either Jayco or Alpha sytems will honor a warranty under your circumstances.

I believe they cannot deny warranty for not sending in the card - legally. That said, it can make you life easier . . .

A Jayco dealer / salesman that does not know what the Jayco warranty terms are ? There are too many good Jayco dealers out there to be using this one. I would have to pass on this trailer. How many other unknowns are there ?

Thanks for all the replies. I kind of thought it was just the original buyer but now I know.I ended up not getting that trailer, When we sat down to write it up he had it $2500 more than I agreed on. I told him we agreed on $18000 and he had the total at $2500 more. He said that's taxes and license fee, I said my $18000 was out the door, needless to say, I just got up and walked away. So I'm looking for something about a 2010 29RLS, let me know if you hear of a nice one around So Cal area.

The change in the out of the door price is exactly what I meant when I said how many more unknowns would there be with this dealer. I am sure that there would have been more before you took delivery. As I stated above there are many good Jayco dealers out there that know their product and are up front about the deal. Good luck I hope you find what you are looking for.
