Newbie and First TT - Jayco Skylark

Hi everyone, from South Texas in the Hill Country (Canyon Lake).

We just bought our first TT today, a 2011 Jayco Skylark, 21FKV.

I spent hours and hours online, researching small, lightweight travel trailers. We also visited tons of dealers, going thru hot trailers in 110 degree heat. Our options were limited, as our TV is a 2011 Jeep Liberty with a 5000 tow capacity.

Came close to purchasing a Trail Manor, which is very similar to a Hi Lo that expands into a full 27 foot trailer with hard sides, but there were just too many issues with it that we could not handle for the price they were asking.

I came across the Skylark yesterday online, spent hours researching it on the forums, etc., found the exact model we wanted in Austin, which is about a 45 minute drive from us. Because it was a 2011, we got about 25% off the MSRP. I realize we probably could have negotiated for a bigger discount, however we were happy with the price and not having to travel so far to pick one up. There were not that many available in Texas that I could locate.

Anyway, we are picking it up this weekend, and staying in the campground adjacent to the dealership to learn everything we need to know about our new baby.

My husband is retired from Texas Dept. of Highways, and I am self-employed, so will be able to spend a week or two a month traveling. Our first "real" trip will be in October, all the way up to Maine to see our son. I'm sure we will spend a long weekend somewhere close to home, before making the Maine trip.

If there are any other Skylark owners on the forum who would like to chat, lemme know!

Terry

TejasTerry,

Another Skylark/Liberty welcome tonight. Hope you enjoy your new TT, as I was telling “Roxanne” in her new post, my wife and I took delivery of our ’11 Skylark about a month ago and we also tow with a ’11 Liberty.

We’ve only been out once and enjoyed the new TT. It’s only the two of us and the dog and we found we have plenty of room and are looking forward to our next outing over Labor Day.

Enjoy and stay cool in Texas!

Thanks for the invite! We will only be about 20 minutes from you, so will try to make it over to Naples. I'm pretty sure I've been thru there before.

My son owns Ebenezers Pub and Restaurant in Lovell. Have you had a chance to visit? It is quite the destination for beer lovers. He is in the middle of his annual Belgium Beer Fest now. www.ebenezerspub.net

good luck, and welcome to jayco "skylark owners"

Have the same model. Wishing you the best of luck with your unit. Am very pleased with mine. Have clocked a little over 10000 miles the past two months without any major incidents.
If you want to discuss issues concerning the Skylark please do not hesitate to do so.
Let me know how you enjoy your unit.

Once again the very best of luck and welcome.

Hello, hello - I am a newbie myself, this is the first post. We also have a Skylark '11 which we got last year. We like it very much. Our first RV was a pop-up (too much work to set up and take down), then a fixed wall trailer with the beds in front and back with big doors that open. Now we have this one where the bed is always made, and when we travel can be used anytime to take a nap.

Use to go through Lovell all the time. In fact almost witnessed the accident that involved Steven King. Use to camp on the other side of Bethel Maine on route 26. Was there for almost 40 years. Small world.
