Property Taxes on RV
I know some states charge sales tax, some charge property taxes, and like my state (SC) some charge both. In South Carolina, there is a max of $300 on sales tax, then you pay property taxes yearly. Of course they go down as the value decreases. What does your state do?

They charge property taxes on an RV parked in your driveway?
We pay sales tax when we buy it like pretty much everything else we buy but nothing else.

Personal Property tax is a stupid concept IMHO....you tax people for making money and you tax people again for spending money (and again, and again, and again - every year for the same depreciable purchase they made 5 years ago) - when I lived in Virginia - it OFTEN discouraged and delayed big ticket investment among my middle class friends.
PA has it's share of taxes - but no personal property tax and no tax on retirement.

Agreed. We don't pay personal property taxes in British Columbia but I'll bet we pay more of other types of taxes.

Ohio is only sales tax. Yearly license plates are flat rate depending on whether it is a pop-up/TT/FW or MH with the MH being a little higher.

In Ohio, sales tax upon purchase then just normal license plate fee yearly. No tax on value of TT after purchase.

Maine: 5% sales tax up front, local excise tax yearly and a plate fee from DMV annually. If you park it at a seasonal site and don't pay the excise/plate fee then it's taxed at property value like a house wherever it's parked. Yea Maine covers all their bases - worst state I've seen for overall tax burden and return on those taxes...

In Montana, we bought a one time only permanent plate for our travel trailer. Nothing more to do than use it!

Although in SC we have all kinds of taxes, they are probably much lower than the northeastern us or west coast. House taxes are $350 on 1700 sq ft house (35 years old) on one half acre in nice suburb of Columbia. Have homestead exemtion on being over 65. Trailer personal prop tax was $261 on the 26BH which I owned at tax time and a little over $500 on the 2012 truck. The trailer was based on a rate as a 2nd home or would would be almost twice as much. I expect this tax to more than double next year on the White Hawk. Effective rate of state income tax is about 2% because we have 30k retirement deduction and no state tax on SS income. Federal income tax is what eats us up. Good place to live!

I envy your house property taxes. I'll pay over $4000 this year on my 2700 sq ft house on a 1/4 acre in White Rock BC.

I too live in SC. The taxes on my 2012 32TSBH (due this month)are only $210. I live in the Greenville area, but since my TT is stored in Horry County, I decided to pay their property taxes, rather than Greenville's. Think I made the right choice there. The property taxes on my home are around $900 on a 2800 sq ft home.

Arizona has sales tax (Phoenix is 8.3%), and excise tax (on value) annually for license tab.

In Va there is the initial 3% sales tax then the DREADED yearly Personal property tax which varies by county. Here it is about 3.70 per hundred. So on a 20,000 RV the tax would be around 740.00 until it depreciates. But the Real estate taxes are low here compared to many other states, so I suppose it balances out. Like another poster said, the man is gonna get you one way or the other.

In VA we also pay PPT on each and every car, truck, boat, and even homemade utility trailers, every year. And my business pays a yearly fee to the county based on the value of tools and equipment owned by the business. But as Crabman said, it balances out, and we still think it's the best place to live, all things considered.
