Looking to Purchse Jay Flight Swift SLX BAJA, advice please:)

HI all, I'm new here. My wife and I are new to RVing. We have been tent campers, and backpackers for years, and are now looking to upgrade a bit. We are very interested in the Jayflight Swift SLX BAJA models, and feel they would fit our bill perfectly. Particularly the 185RB. Jayco just added to their website a 195RB than I have not seen on any lots yet.

Most of the SLX BAJA's we are finding on dealer lots have an interior package with white counter tops. Some of the non-BAJA models have other interior color's that we have see. We are beeing told by one dealer that the BAJA editions are only availalbel with this white counter top interior as they are made in Jayco's Idaho plant.

Any thoughts or advice would be great! anything to watch out for? Dealer recomendations? We are located in Yuma, AZ, so we have to travel to a dealer no matter what.

Thank you!

The link you posted is for a 198RD, which is what I have. I checked out this new 195RB and here are my initial thoughts:

-that's a pretty long trailer for a single axle, and sway would certainly be something to worry about. it probably wouldn't tow that nicely.
-this line of trailers is designed to keep GVWR below 3500lbs so that salesmen can tell you they are minivan & SUV towable. All this means is that the larger the trailer in this line, the less payload you have for gear, etc.
-by the time you add in your battery weight, any accessories, and heaven forbid you travel with any fresh water in the tank, you will have next to no payload left for your essentials.
-the only benefit i see to this floorplan is because the bathroom is in the rear, your hitch weight is less and won't kill as much of your tow vehicle's payload.

Conclusion: if you want a trailer 19+ feet, step up to the JayFlight Swift line and make sure you have enough truck to deal with it. if not, consider a shorter, lighter trailer, or a pop-up.

Wow, thank you for the advice, we began looking at the Swift SLX because our tow vehicle is an 07 Toyota FJ cruiser. I want to be as light as possible back there, Some dealers have gotten back to me in regards to the 195RB, no one has them yet, it sounds like they may not have even come off the line yet. We are still very interested in the 185RB with the BAJA pacakge. Its pretty amazing to see the large diferences in prices from dealer to dealer, any thoughts on pricing? im seeing differences as much as $5,500!
