Operating the Awning - Help!

OK, We just bought a 2008 jayco jayflight trailer 19BH with manual awning and took it out for the maiden voyage last weekend. We can't remember for the life of us how to operate the darn thing. Can someone please send me directions??

Check my signature and you will find the manual under the Carefree section.

I am going from memory, not in front of it - but the basic steps are --

1 - undo the latches on each arm
2 - loosen the screw handle on each arm
3 - slide the lock up to allow it to roll out
4 - pull out the awning
5 - slide the support arms up until they lock
6 - tighten the screw handles
7 - raise each side up leaving one side lower so rain does not pool

To take down -

1 - lower awning
2 - loosen nut and lower arms
3 - while holding strap, release lock and slowing roll up awning
4 - tighten lock nuts
5 - lock awning release and arm locks

Hope that helps...

The second option is to push the ext button until it is all the way out.

Terry:
I think your reply is about right but I think number six should be last, and number 7 should be number six. Don't want to tighten the screw handles until completely extended. Then lock them down.

Plus, DO NOT FORCE IT OPEN.

If you try the above steps and it does not extend will little effort, check your steps again. You may have missed something.

I doubled checked the manual and and I think I am right...it has you tighten the knob and then you change the pitch. Sounds right since the distance from the top of the camper and the end of the awning never changes (or the awning would sag). Probably does not hurt either way, but it is not too easy to reach those knobs after you raise it all the way up.

Before we got the power awning we would always pull the slide bar down real tight and then tighten the nob while we could reach it. Raising the awning was always last.

My wife wanted the power awning. I prefer the manual type.

You may want to view these YouTube videos which clearly explain the steps to follow in their correct order while opening and closing a manual awning.

They cleared up any questions I had regarding the correct processes to follow.

Onward to the next RV mystery. <:O))

Cheers!

Good find on the videos! Only difference on most Jaycos is they have a remote release/lock located in the middle of the front arm which is nice!

One thing I can tell you from seeing it - hold on really tight to the main arm when you lower the awning back down. I have a friend who let it slip and slam down. The aluminum arm is now bent and will not extend.
