Dexstar Rim Leaking

I have a 5 month old Jayflight 23mb. Today I noticed I had a flat tire, turns out it is leaking through the rim at the weld.

Has anyone else gone through this. I'll call Jayco tomorrow, but am expecting to hear that the rims are not included in 'the best warranty in the industry' since they are accessories, not Jayco parts.

We are currently about 7,500 miles from home. I can always buy another wheel from a local tire store, but I'd like to see if their warranty is really worth anything.

Thanks,

Duncan

If Jayco does not cover it, at the very least the rim manufacturer should. But I would hope Jayco steps up and makes it an easy process.

Years ago (I thought) some rim manufacturers were having problems with aluminum porosity. Maybe those days aren't behind us.

There's a campingworld not to far from you and they would have a rim. I would buy one for now and see about a re embursement.

I had a Dexstar steel rim develop a crack; Dexstar has a two year warranty shown in this link: Dexstar Warranty.

Whatever wheel you replace your defective one with make sure it is rated for trailer use. Be cautious in what a dealer tells you about rims as my experience is that even the best of them sometimes do not have a clue.

Dexstar Rim Leaking

I had one develop a pinhole leak a few months out of warranty. They had the manufacturer send me a new one under warranty.
Mine was a Tredit rim but they made it good.

Progress so far...

The Jayco dealer in San Antonio didn't have a rim, but told us where we could buy one. They input the data to Jayco, and swapped the rim we bought over for free. Now we at least have a spare. They expect to hear from Jayco in the next few days with a disposition. In the mean time, we are packing the old rim with us, the dealer thinks Jayco may want it. It will probably cost us more to mail it, than the $50 to buy a new one.

The local dealer in San Antonio did what they could, we were happy. Hopefully Jayco will reimburse the rim. What ever happens, we are back on the road.

If you wind up with the old rim you may be able to grind the leaking spot from the inside and patch it with JB Weld.

I had a blow out last year on my 28dsbh and bent my aluminum rim and this local welding shop fixed it for $30.00 looked great and a lot cheaper than a new rim.
