light switch under panel

Am I missing something when I come in from the outside at night we have to open the panel near the door to turn on the lights in living area? Why is there not a switch on inside wall near door? Has anyone installed a switch here? 2014 26 RLS. Plus no switch for bedroom lights or fan switch in bathroom on wall did anyone walk through this camper before it was put into production and notice this stuff?

All sounds like ours. I have the same opinions. Our high dollar Cedar Creek was similar with the lights. Main light switch behind a panel. I don't agree with price. Just move the dang switch for the living room lights, and a few more feet of wire for the bedroom. Don't think that'll break them. We did relocate a few on the last fifth wheel, but I'll leave this one be for the time being.

We have the same panel when we walk in. However, there is one switch underneath the panel that operates a kitchen light/ceiling fan. Makes it very convenient. Does not offer a lot of light but plenty for getting in and not tripping over something.

When all these answers are taken together, the manufacturer is able to make a good business decision. In a word, that decision is based on...

Oh. Right. Price.

Sorry, Grumpy.

We just took the door off of our last unit so the switches were a little handier to get to. Our present unit is also lacking for switches. Coming into the unit at night is very dark. The wife also wanted some under cabinet lighting. I bought a two pack of Duracell LED under cabinet lights, with photo cells and motion sensors. I installed them under the cabinets on either side of the sink. To my surprise, when we open the door at night, the one under the cabinet closest to the door senses the door opening and comes on, giving us enough light to see coming in and to get to the switches. They also turn off automatically when the other lights are turned on, or you can manually operate them. Beats trying to run wiring around.

Get a magnetic door switch like they use for alarm systems or MH steps. I hooked up a separate light like that when we had the SENECA.

Thanks a bunch, need to put this at the top of my list. At the camp ground I really don't want to leave that light on for hours while I'm gone.

I’m convinced that the people who build these things have never used one. The electrical receptacles in our unit are located in the bottom of the upper cabinets over our countertop. There is not a coffee pot, toaster, crockpot or electric frying pan with a cord that can reach the outlets. We use a power strip, but really!

Right next to the door on the inside is a dual switch - one is for the outside light and the other for the living room lights.

I have outlets in every place I need one (kitchen counter, next to the dinette) and places I don't (on both sides of the queen bed above the side cabinets, outside.)

The trailer we traded in last year was a 1964 model, and after moving to the 2015 jayco we were so pleased at how convenient and well thought out everything was.

I guess not all models are the same!

Which model? We have the same in the PINNACLE that is why I said it's based on price as to what extra ammenities you get.

Jay Flight 195RB. I thought it was one of the low end models.

Then that's good to hear, the original unit in question was a 2014 so it appears JAYCO has made improvements.

We use a little night light with a 4 watt bulb in the socket over the sink. We have a paper towel rack mounted in front of the outlet so the light is difused. Keep it on 24/7.
Also have one in the bathroom so I don't pee on the floor.

We plug in coffee pot on the outlet on the side of the counter. I would guess these outlets are mounted to code, i.e. not too close to water.
