olympian heater hook-up

I have been pondering how and where to hook-up a olympian wave 6 heater. we do alot of boondocking and this heater is a must for us. I have two outside propane lines with quick couplers, one on the side by the fold down cook top, and one under the back bumper. I was thinking of taking this one out of the brackets and finding a way to get it into the inside (under the sink, behind stove, etc) and put a male quick coupler end on my heater. it has legs so the hose would be long enough to move the heater around as needed. is this a good idea?? do quick couplers ever leak when un-hooked? the heater says low pressure hook-up, could I have to much pressure from this line?

Many propane QD's have a lever style ball valve incorporated into the fitting so that you have to close the valve in order to slide the sleeve back to de-couple the appliance. I'd install one of those if I were you.

Your lines running around the camper are all low pressure (11" W.C.) downstream from the regulator on your bottle. Does your heater have a place where a 1lb cylinder screws into it? If so, it won't work on the low pressure lines in your trailer without modification.

yes the quick coupler has the shut off lever. I was wondering if it would ever leak while unhooked from the heater.

No you can't hook a 1lb cylinder to the heater, If I remember right its got a 3/8 fitting coming out the heater.

I had one mounted permanantly in my old trailer, but don't have a good spot in the new one.

I looked up the heater on line after I posted last night. I've never had one of the QD's with the shutoff leak on me before. You can check it before use with some soapy water for peace of mind.

I also only boondock, we use the furnace. I have had the furnace run the batteries down so I added more batteries. Why do prefer the Olympian Wave Heater?

The battery issue was the main reason, but after having and using one for the last 12 years would be lost without one. doesn't use much propane and you don't have to listen to the furance come on and off all nite.

I definitely can see the benefits of not being waken by the furnace starting and stopping. Since I rarely camp in the coldest months, I mostly just add an extra blanket to the pile.

I will keep it mind for when I camp in colder months in the future.

We use a Kozy World heater and just run the hose out a small window to the tank outside. You need plenty of fresh air when operating that type of heater and the gap in the window helps with that.

Also water vapor is a byproduct of burning propane. A little ventilation will help prevent things from getting damp.

I just T'd off of the oven line.. used a quick connect so I could disconnect and store the unit when not needed.

Popups have this kind of fitting indoors for the stove. I know mine does. I think it is safe enough. That being said, your trailer has a much better air seal than mine does.

So you never have any issues with the quick coupler leaking while unhooked or hooked to the heater?
