Rear Window Blind

We just picked up our TT from the dealer last Tues. after having some warranty work done. Everything looked fine but we didn't look at our rear blind because we usually keep it drawn when stored at home or enroute. We packed and headed out to the campground to spend Easter weekend there. When we arrived we wanted to raise the blind and noticed the string that is threaded through the right side of the blind was broken and pulled to the other side. We don't know if it happened when driving or when warranty work was being done at the dealer. Is it difficult to remove the blind? Try to restring it myself? Or should we just drive the TT to the dealer to fix?

To remove the blind, there should be a little steel clip - at the end of the window / wall brackets. Some use a cap and others use a u-shape fastener. Each blind company uses different latching locks. Search around and see if you can remove the blind yourself. With blind removed, you can then show it to your many technical friends. If they are unable to re-string the blind for free, you may have to take the blind to a profesisonal store. Or, back to the RV dealer - who might recommend a good blind fixing shop. To me, the hardest task is finding the steel clip on the window brackets. The first time on my TT, it took me 10 minutes to find its locking release clip. Learning how things are locked down can be tricky at times....

You have a new trailer. I would take it back to the dealer.

You pay big bucks for a new trailer and the warranty that comes with it.. so take it to the dealer and let him deal with it..

Agreed. If under warranty and "it broke" on its own, they fix for free.

But if they feel the damage was from a person (re: pulling the string too hard are backing into it), they charge dearly. Before returning to the dealer, do determine if warranty repair of fix - from accidental improper usage.

We did have the screen on the rear window replaced while it was at the dealer. It was torn during transport that we noticed during walk through. So maybe during that time it broke, we just don't know. While at the dealer they were also suppose to fix the shade in the bedroom that has a knot in the string along the one side but it was not done. It sometimes binds a little when raising and lowering. Knot still there, they said it doesn't cause a problem. It is noted on the repair tag with this issue. Have been playing phone tag with the service dept. yesterday hopefully today will be a better day.

I know these are minor fixes to them but a hassle for us.

We now have an appointment to take it back to the dealer on Wed. to have it repaired. He said they will restring it.

Not to highjack this thread, but.....I have about a year and a half of warranty left so I really wrestled with this over the replacement of a leaky toilet valve. My tt dealer is about 100 miles from my front door. In the end, with gas being $4 per gallon, I had the manufacturer send me the valve and I replaced it myself.

While lurking around I also found these replacement parts that can be ordered. Maybe after the warranty expires I may have to do this myself. For now it will go to the dealer and let him deal with it.

Whether it's a window blind or a toilet or anything else bumper to bumper, remember that if you are too far from your dealer, call Jayco and they will authorize you to go to a local shop to you so you can have needed warranty work done

This is really great info! Thanks! I am wondering what their idea of too far away would be? I think, though, as campers, most of us are pretty hands on type people. You gotta be to enjoy campping. If its something withing my skill range and I have the parts provided, i dont mind (and most of the time prefer) to do the work myself.
