Your Own Personal DRONE!!

Now this would be one slick toy for the camping trips!

RC Drone over Michigan campground and Soo Locks:

If the above video doesn't display, here is the U-Tube link: http://youtu.be/ZRUEHaI-seM

The guy that owns the drone in the above video also has a nice web site/blog about his drone & MH travels as well: http://www.outsideourbubble.com/

That drone is neat. My grandson has a RC airplane with a small camera which we're taking to the campground with us as soon as it gets warmer. I would bet he would gladly swap his airplane for this drone.

Pretty neat, but I wonder about height restrictions - not sure, but looks as though it might be able to get up into the altitude range of small aircraft, which could be a problem . . . .

It'll be really cool when one comes swooping over your pool next summer or hovering outside your bedroom window. I have declared my property to be a "no fly" zone and UAV's will be shot down on sight.

That's nice, but its really irresponsible to fly an RC aircraft intentionally overhead of everyone in the campground. Also breaking several AMA rules in the process. It was really cool flying over the water getting the barge shots.

Only because I'm still learning and want to understand - What is the AMA and what rules? I did google AMA and only get American Motorcycle Association and American Medical Association and I don't think they are the correct groups or rules.

I was also wondering what AMA stood for.

Yes,

http://www.modelaircraft.org/

When flying models, there is a large safety aspect. With newer radios, you don't need to worry about interference like we used too, but you never know when you might loose power or several other factors. It can be dangerous to fly overhead of other people and property. If you get a chance, look for a model field near you, and go check it out. Just like RV's there are a lot of great people that you can talk to and learn. If you get hooked, its one of the most relaxing, but expensive hobbies you will ever get into.

Your welcome. The nice thing about those quad rotors, they are pretty easy to fly, and nice and stable from the few I have seen. Another nice thing is the price of batteries are so cheap now, you can't help but fly electric. When Li-Po and Li-On batteries came out, it was over $100.00 for a single pack you might fly 8 minutes with, now you can pick them up for $7.00 and twice the capacity.

I think you are right. The price was not that bad for the value model too.

Where are you getting LiPo packs for $7? I run 6 cell 7.2v 5000maH LiPo in my Stadium and SC Trucks. I am certainly paying more than $7 for them...maybe $7/cell.

But you are right, nitro is out for RC. With Brushless motors and LIPO battery packs I can smoke my old NITRO cars. Plus I don't have to tear apart engines all the time and it's so much quieter.
