I have a 1/2 ton silverado with a 5.3L V8, 3:73 gearing and helper springs. I tow a 27.5 RLTS Eagle HT with no problems. Also towed a 27.5 BHS jay flight 5th wheel before the HT with my old 3:23 gear no problems

Do helper springs give a stiffer ride when not towing or are they only "activated" when the weight is heavy enough.

My Tundra rides just as smooth as without them.

Max Payload usually is people, what's in the box and TT tongue weight , or so the Ford dealer says for 2011 F150. Every year numbers change. 5th wheel pin is in the box, becomes part of the people and what's in the box. Safe Max Tow weight is what's on wheels, TT or 5th wheel before the frame, drive train and tires give up. HD F150 usually has 6 or 7 lugs and E rated tires.

I've heard the term "I hardly know it's back there" a lot of times. But I gotta tell ya...even with my overkill set-up, I still know it's back there

I'd bet money that after the hitch, people, equipment etc you'll be over your max payload. I pull my 27.5bhs with a 2010 Ram 2500 CTD and I'm pushing my max payload loaded but without water. Previously I pulled a 5800 lb loaded trailer with a 2005 F150 with the 5.4, and knowing how that pulled there is no way I'd even consider pulling a 10k gvwr 5th wheel with it. For those saying they don't know it's even there behind a 1500, I call bs as I know it's behind my Ram that weighs 2k more and has a diesel. Same grades in the mtns here I was pulling thatb5800 lb trailer with the F150 at 25 mph, I can comfortably pull the HT at 65.

I have to agree with Troutslayer. We tow our FW, Eagle SuperLite HT 27.5 RLS with a 2012 GMC 2500HD D/A combo and while it has no trouble pulling the FW, we do know it's there, especially when I look out the rear view mirror, LOL. We also tag a boat along behind the FW, a Crestliner Super Hawk 1900 and while the 2500HD pulls it just fine, you do know it's there. We can accelerate from 40 mph up a 6-7 % grade to about 65 at the crest with this combo but it does have to work a bit.
