I replaced the OEM tank with a replacement from www.titanfueltanks.com. I did this a few months after I got my truck and would do it again. It doubled my fuel capacity from 26 to 52 gallons. It was not cheap, but so worth it and my bed has nothing in it.

My wife won't let me do it, says I drive far enough between bathroom breaks as it is now. With a 34 or so gallon tank, I have about a 350 mile range even pulling the FW and boat. Without, it over 500 miles.

Solution: Take out the seat where she is siting, buy a Porti Porti Delux with backrest optional vibration and heat massage for relaxed traveling.
You the larger fuel tank and everybody is happy.
I have times taking the foot of the throttle too and keep on rollin' rollin'..........well at least she will let me sleep under the TT. Also gives me a spray paint can to do the underbody.

Our new truck has a 36 gallon tank but for I consider that a twenty gallon tank cause I don't like to get too low. I think I would like a tank under a tool box of 50 to 100 gallons. Being a xtrucker my wife can ride and ride and ride, now that we are not on a schedule she want to stop a lot more. We try to drive no more than 450 to 500 miles, but sometimes we travel only 100 or none.

It isn't just about range between "potty stops" that is important to me. I stop when I or my passengers need to regardless of my fuel state. What it does is allow me to get the cheapest fuel in a larger area which we all know varies a lot from station to station with diesel.

An example this past weekend: I drove from central Alabama to the Atlanta area to visit with my daughter. It is approx 230 miles each way. I didn't have a full tank when I left and I planned on fueling up at her house before I drove back. As I was leaving to come back to my home base I checked www.gasbuddy.com to see where the cheapest diesel was. As it turned out it was 12 cents/gallon cheaper at my home base (it had dropped while I was gone) so I just drove the 230 miles back home and filled up. With the original OEM tank I could not have done this.

Between the factory tank and the Transfer Flow in the bed we carry 67 gallons and it is sure nice to pick and choose where to buy fuel and not be stopping so often for fuel. A quick potty stop at a rest area or a wide spot in the road is a lot different than the ordeal of pulling off the road finding a station that can handle the rig and all the rest that goes into a full blown fuel stop. I too spent a career on the road as a truck driver so stopping for fuel every couple hundred miles is not something I enjoy doing.

If you do the math on the examples above and you assume a cost of $1000 +/- to add the aux tank, this project is not cost justified unless you drive 10's of thousands miles per year. I carry a 5 gal jerry can of diesel when on the road to give me some fluff in case I can't find diesel or I miss judge the distance to the next stop. Have only had to dip into the reserve once in 15 years. With a wife, 2 dogs, and being a survivor of prostate surgery; the stops tend to be shorter rather than longer.

I also have the titan tank.. they are great...
potty stops I stop every 2 hours for a stretch.. I would rather enjoy the trip rather than be goal oriented.

Auxillary Fuel Tank

I have a 60 gallon tank/tool box combo purchased from Northern Tool. It is T'd into the filler hose of the OEM tank and uses a small electric fuel pump to transfer the fuel. When the truck fuel gage gets low I just turn the dash mounted switch on (w/ red indicator light) and let it run until the tank is full, then turn it off. It's wired into a circuit that is only hot when the key is on. I also installed a return line back to the tank in the OEM filler hose to prevent overfilling. Total cost was less than $700 and I now carry 86 gallons.

I added an in bed tank to my 2007.5, and gravity feed with the northern tool kit. Works great. Can go 1000 miles when not towing. With the chevy's, if you are using the aux tank and the gas gauge does not see the main tank moving, it will read empty after a while. As soon as it sees the main tank moving again, it will snap back into acion.

I may have to look into an aux tank as well. Ford only put a 26 gal fuel tank on their F-250 Crewcab short box trucks. At 12mpg towing and only 20 gallons of usable fuel [trip computer says "0" miles till empty by this time] 240 miles between stops just doesn't get it.

Look at a titan tank... it does not take up valuable truck bed space and doubles what Ford gives you. It is a direct replacement for your tank.
