I'm Outta Here
I'm leaving about daylight this morning from my host position back to my home base. The past 4 months has gone rather quickly, but I'm still ready to hook up. Actually just drive off. I hooked up last night and just need to pull in the slides, unhook and load the DirecTV dish, stow the shore power cord and I'm off. Now for one more cup of coffee first.

Congratulations, Ed, on a successful summer of hosting. So, where to next? Home or traveling around for a while? And will you be hosting at the same CG next summer?
Happy/Safe Travels!

Congrats on a successful summer! Hopefully one day I will be able to be a camp host after I retire and spend a greater amount of time out camping. Have a safe drive back.

It's nice to get back on the road again, isn't it. Enjoy the drive, Ed.

It was nice getting back on the road for a few hours anyway. My home base site is only 250 miles from the park. After 4 months I was ready for a move especially after Labor Day. The park was much too quiet if there is such a thing.
I will be here at my home base for the next 10 days and then I'm off to Road Atlanta for the Petite le Mans race. I will be there for 5 days enjoying the racing as a spectator. Then back to my home base until December 21. Then I'm off to Orlando to camp next to my daughter and her family until December 27. Then back to my home base for a few days prior to starting a 2 month host position at a Corps of Engineers park. I have never hosted with the Corps before so we shall see how it goes. I will be back at St. Andrews on 5-15-2015 for my 5th summer.

Hey Ed, Do not live to far from Orlando (Brandon). Send me a PM when you get there and maybe we can meet up for coffee or a beer.
One of those COE parks where they lock the gates at 10pm? Have to be in by then or can't get in until the next morning.

Yes, one of those parks. Although it wouldn't be hard to drive around this gate if someone really wanted to.

We stayed at one in Texas several years ago. It was not hard to drive around the gate...but you could get in trouble says the Park Ranger.

not to hi jack the thread, but do they really lock the gate? what if there is a medical emergency? I always wondered about the gates and thought they were only used in the off season

Yes...they lock the gate. Not for exit, if I remember correctly, but the entrance gate. Supposedly COE is going to start stopping that practice and put in gates with keypads etc...like at state parks.

Yes the gates are locked, no entrance or exit. If there is an emergency, there is always a host on duty just inside the gate. I always make it a practice to get emergency numbers from the COE campgrounds when we check in. I have been in parks where emergencies have occurred and folks had to be transported by ambulance. The host obviously unlocks the gates for bonafide emergencies. I have also been awakened in the middle of the night by the host when my daughter was involved in a medical emergency.
