LP Usage

One big factor that I have noticed, but failed to mention is wind. Even being four season and with thermal windows, wind will make a big difference in your propane usage. I have stayed before where it was 20* outside and once the camper warmed up, the furnace cycled on maybe once an hour. I've also camped when it was 35* but windy, and the furnace cycles every 5-10 minutes. You can put insulation plugs in your overhead vents, which will help, but there's very little you can do to completely seal these up against the wind.
My solution was to have a 100 gallon tank set at our seasonal site so now I set the thermostat on 70* and don't worry about it.

So far in 5 days we have used not quite half a tank. Still have a full spare but still working off the partially filled tank when we started. Temperatures have been down in the low 30's and high 50's. We are also using fireplace to knock the chill off so usage has not been high at all so far.

Geez, 8 days so far and still on the partially filled tank that we started with. Weather has not been too cold so that has helped. 31 in the morning so back into the freezing weather. We leave in two more days so our propane usage has been very un-extraordinary!

I can finally say after our ten day trip to West Point Lake, we used about a third of one bottle and switched to the full bottle the day before we left. Not bad at all. We were having problems with the furnace igniting on the one bottle and seemingly no problems on ignition once the tanks switched over. We went on another trip this past week for 5 days and temps down in the teens. Did not finish the full bottle and it was really cold to us Southerners. Did have a couple times where the furnace did not ignite in those 5 days. Unit is currently in the shop to get the furnace checked out. That is a major job because the unit has to be pulled out through the basement storage to even be serviced. Thank goodness it is still under warranty!

We finally depleted the main 30 lb tank after almost 15 months of service. The auto change-over regulator worked flawlessly; it began feeding from the "backup" cylinder and the "barber pole" turned red indicating the "service" cylinder was depleted. I turned the valve on the regulator toward the full cylinder, thus making it the "service" cylinder and removed the empty cylinder to be filled. It will become the "backup" cylinder when I put it back on the trailer. This way I will always have at least one full 30 lb cylinder.
