Running Light Question
Hey everyone. I was just wanting to know if it is possible to rig up a switch on my pop-up to turn the parking lights on and off after my camper is detached from my truck and is hooked up to the electric power supply at the camp site. If it is possible, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this. I have a 92 Jayco Cardinal Designer Series 8 pop-up.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

What kind of trailer light power cord do you have for brake and running lights?

Here is something I found on line. http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx It shows the wire color code on any connector. The 6 pin according to this site shows the red or black as 12V and the brown as tail lights.

This will take a few min of your time....
Make a short jumper wire that you can fit in your plug and long enough to go to any other opening in the plug
using a VOM find the hot lead
put one end of the jumper in the hot lead
DO NOT LET IT TOUCH THE GROUND LEAD
now go thought the rest of the leads on the plug till you find the one that controls the marker lights just remember those 2 jump them across and you are done...
I have the 7 pin round and use a flasher to short the 2 across so the lights flash. Works well if a friend is trying to find you at night

I was just thinking...... I will need a battery installed in the camper in order to do this won't I? I don't believe I have one in the camper.

You'll need some source to power the lights if you're disconnected from your TV. Why no battery?

Im not sure. I bought it late last fall and just opened it up over the last week. trying to do an overhaul on it and getting it cleaned up and upgrading the lighting on it. This mod is just something that popped in my head a few days ago.

Usually on the front near the propane tanks, you'll find the battery box. Plus if you can run the lights without the power cord being plugged in, you know you have a battery somewhere.

well, it turns out my camper's converter isn't capable of running the parking lights... So, I guess that project has been shot down. Oh well. Thanks for all the help everyone.

You must not have brakes on your trailer. If you did, it would have to have a battery to power the emergency brakes.

yeah it has brakes on it. they are mechanical brakes, not electric. it has a brake fluit reservoir on the tounge and a cable that attaches to the TV.
