winter storage question

Will be storing my 26bhw in an unheated indoor polebarn. Any thoughts on cushions/mattresses as far as moisture or mildew, also what about mice and such. Btw it will be stored in lower michigan/thumb area. Thanks for any advice or tips

We left our air mattress's in the folding sofas and both got chewed up by mice. The regular mattress was fine. I do leave both roof vents open as I have the maxx air covers.

the owners manual says to put the cushions on their edge to allow greater air flow

I sprinkle bug killer around tires and jack and put out lots rat poison around RV when ever it will not be used within three to four weeks. It helps keep stuff out.

I guess everybody has ideas of what will and wont work for pests but I don't like to use any poisons. We all are subjected to enough toxins and I don't want to add to it.

Tomorrow I will be cleaning and winterizing and once its closed up will get underneath with a bright light and try to find any potential entry points for mice. Kitty kills many but living in the woods there are always more !!

Over a 23 year period we've had a PUP and 2 hybrid trailers. We store outside, next to our garage, on a gravel pad, have never covered them, never did anything special with the cushions. We do have have mice from a natural area behind our home, some even come into the garage, which is attached to our house and right next to the trailers. We've never had mice in the trailers or insects, and neither has my dad, who's '77 Jayco trailer is parked on the same pad for the past 20 some odd years. The trick is to make sure that any potential food source is removed from the trailer. And clean the inside really good when putting it to bed. Of course we also do so after every trip, but the point being is to remove all potential food sources, even trace.

Since you have indoor storage you might want to leave one of your push out windows open for a little extra ventilation.

If you have dogs or cats, avoid poisons. Dogs and cats both will eat mice, small critters, and insects. If they are eating critters that ate the poison, they can get sick or even die.

EDIT: I do cover my AC and tires.

I am able to get our Lance in the barn and I use drier sheets inside and outside I shave a couple bars of Irish Spring soap on the barn floor. Never have had a problem with mice.

Why dryer sheets? Do you replace them every month? Or are they good for the full winter?

X2 on the poisons, there are other options and my doctor said their old school and do much harm to us as well. Almost all kids today as well as us are testing positive to many of these poisons.

I'm going to try glue traps in the TT this winter and hope the cold temps don't effect the glue. I did poison last winter but didn't like the fact the mice can go off an die somewhere inside the TT...with a glue trap they don't go anywhere.

During winter storage for moisture control I use DampRid, sold at most big box stores.

For mouse control I keep a few "loaded" mouse traps in the TT and check them frequently. Peanut butter for bait works great.

We use dry sheets. Bounce is what I was told to use. Even I think they stink. Wife puts in all cabinets and lays a few around.

Ok as far as dryer sheets go. Must be BOUNCE brand. There is something in BOUNCE that no other brand has. Mice will chew right thru other brands. Mice HATE BOUNCE sheets. Also (remember mice climb, they dont fly) Sprinkle a fair amount of moth balls around everything that touches the ground from the RV. Mice despise moth balls and will avoid the area.

As rustic eagle says---Place a bucket of Damp Rid inside the coach, you may place a bucket under the coach as well (especially if storage area is a grass field). Keeping moisture down is the biggest life saver of an RV.

If you decide to cover your RV, make sure the cover is breathable, and will allow the entire area "under the cover" to dry completely. Some covers actually "trap" the moisture.

We do the same with Irish Spring Soap. works for us. We put a bar under both sinks and around the water line entry area, also.

Both myths, but everyone has their own "mojo" to keep critters out - whatever makes you feel good...

I have been storing trailers and fifthwheels outside for 34 winters and never had any bugs or mice. Make sure there is nothing edible in the unit and you won't have problems.

We use drier sheets, too… also in my stored classic cars… seems to keep them out. Just put them into the RV (and cars) in the fall… they "smell" all winter!

Also, Fresh Cab seems to work, too… a natural product… from balsam fir, I think. … available at TSC (Tractor Supply).

I use dryer sheets even though I've had mice once even with the sheets. Remove any food source from the trailer. The year I had them I left cornhole bean bags in the storage bin. They got into them and then into the trailer. I check on mine about once a month to make sure they didn't get in it and I use those circular safety mouse traps around it in the barn so I can catch them before they have a chance to get into it.

Been considering this cover. Anyone have any experience with it?
