X19 bunk ends leak!!

Here we are on our inaugural trip and it's been raining for 12 hours... Nothing torrential but steady......no different than the sound of rain on a tent but within 2 hours our first issue arose. The side windows on the bunk ends leak at the stiching across the top end of the zipper... The end zippered windows are fine probably because they overhang but three out of the four side windows leak through the stitch holes.....not every hole but more than a handful...and once it starts it just keeps dripping.....on my head....my pillow.....the mattress.... :-(. Has anyone else experienced this? It would understand it happening on a much older unit that's had plenty of use, but not brand spankin new. I'm afraid the dealer will just spray or wipe on some waterproofing and that's it...I'm thinking new bunk ends.

sitting in our X17z and it rained pretty hard throughout the night and raining off and on most of the morning and we're nice and dry. Hope it works out well for you at the dealer.

We got out hybrid in the fall and it's been through a few storms. Last week we got about 2-3" of rain in about a four hour span. It absolutely poured. Everything inside stayed dry.

I know it doesn't really help you out but I just wanted to let you know that I haven't had an issue.

One more thing. Are you sure it's leaking and it's not condensation?

Did you season the bunk ends before the first trip? This involves opening the bunk ends, lightly spraying them down with water, then letting them fully air dry. The Jayco manual states to do this 3 times. This allows the material and stitching to swell and seal properly.

That's encouraging to hear, that you can season the seams...perhaps after this trip it will be totally fine.. Your dealer should have told you about doing that. Sorry to hear about the problem.. Hopefully it will resolve?

We are picking up our X17A and this "seasoning" the seams is good to know.

I'm sorry yours is leaking.

I sprayed the bunks of my X23B before our first outing and have had no leaks. If seasoning doesn't work try some spray-on tent seam sealer. Outdoor shop should carry this.

Seasoning the bunk ends to shrink the stitching is a must before the first trip. Jayco's owner manual states this should be done well in advance of the first trip.

Seasoning the end? I don't recall this.. though I must say, didn't spend much time in the manual. What's seasoning?

Seasoning is wetting the tenting and allowing it to completely dry. Do this several times and you should not have any leaks.

I figured that was the process. While we didn't officially do this.. we've been rain on enough since we got the TT.. so we're well seasoned now. lol

I have to admit I only sprayed H2O on the canvas once (seasoning) three days before we left............Hosed it for a few minutes to check for leaks and nothing, so I thought everything was fine..........however, a few minutes doesn't match 12 hours of steady rain though. I'll be finishing this "seasoning" process this week in hopes that does the trick...........I really should read that whole manual :-)

So do you have to season the tent ends after the unit has been in storage over the winter also?

WOW, glad I stumbled onto this thread. The dealer didn't mention "seasoning" the bunkends, and we didn't have to do that with our last popup (purchased new). Guess we have one more thing to do this weekend before our next trip.

This forum is a great place to find out all the things we should know but don't

Do you have to season just the stitching or the whole canvas? Just got my x17z yesterday and haven't looked at the manual yet. Also, can you use regular seam sealer on the inside of the stitching? I do this in all my nylon tents and have never been wet.

Congratulations on the new trailer. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. You don't need to use seam sealer on the seams. You should soak the entire tenting to season it.

you would think they would do this at the factory while checking for leaks etc. anyways, ive always have very good luck with the water proofer spray-on stuff found in the camping isle. I used it on some extreamly old camping tents and has been leak freen now for 5 yrs.

According to Jayco in their videos only every 10th unit is put in the rain booth and checked for leaks.

I would think the dealer would wash it before you picked it up and that would help season the seams.
