Jayco Yard

I took this video about 2 weeks ago. It is one of the Jayco yards in Middlebury, Indiana. It will give you an idea of how many trailers are sitting awaiting transport to dealers. Please excuse the shaky cell phone video.

That’s a lot of trailers. It looks like you have a bit of job security.

Indiana is supposed to be the RV production capital of the country. Indiana RV Connection in Middlebury, where we ordered and picked up our Whitehawk, handles nothing but Jayco; and their lot was bulging with new Jaycos awaiting pickup. A buddy and I picked our TT up on April 3 and headed west on I80, then south on I57. It seems most of the southbound RVs were being hauled by transport companies. While at an IL rest area, two transporters with same signage on trucks turned in in front of us. It never occurred to me, but obviously all those new trailers have to get hauled one by one to the destination dealer. I'd be interested to hear what the transporters charge, and what a typical week is for them. ...

search commercial rv hauling on here and you will see some insight into this. As to fees.....it varies by the company. Pay is a by the "loaded mile" and is not an overly high paying job. You can (I do) make a living at it. Me personally I have my own company and am leased to another company. This enables all the tax deductions necessary to succeed at this.

Looks like Jayco didn't have to layoff any of their employees for the winter. They must be doing something right. Makes me proud to own one.

They (like most) have several yards. This one is a staging area if you will for trailers being picked up soon. They have a few other yards over by the plants. I am heading down again on Wednesday to pick up another trailer (not sure manufacturer yet) and I will try and snag another video. Wife is going with me this trip so maybe she can get better quality video!
Lay offs? Not over the winter. That is the busy season for all of them. Summer is when it slows down as sales drop.

Oh yeah, that was the StarCraft IIRC. Only been into Topeka 3x and usually after dark so never noticed the plant there.

Do some research on that. There is one company (rv connection maybe, I cant remember the name) that does essentially that. There are a few other locations as well.
