Bed support

I have 2015 28 BHBE, with a queen bed upfront. We have found the center of the bed to sag and we roll to the middle. We have a Tempur-Pedic topper, but had this problem before adding this.

I have thought I'd cut 2x6 pieces and put them in when we set up, then lay them down when tearing down. Have also thought of swapping out the plywood with a heavier sheet. Heck, even thought about both.

What are your all's thoughts? Camper is in storage for the winter, so will get after this first thing in the spring.

Thanks!!

(The following assumes that the sides of the bed platform are adequately supported and the sag is due to the plywood not being ridged enough.)

Seeing photos of our 27RLS (on order), the front queen bed has what appears to be 2"x2" lumber running 'head to toe' under the plywood bed platform. If yours is similar, adding support at 90 degrees to the 2x2 lumber would probably do the trick - in house floor framing they'd call this 'blocking.' (Google floor framing blocking and you'll see examples. I am not in construction, but I did this on a deck I built years ago.)

The blocks cut from 2"x4" lumber would run in a staggered line at right angles to the existing lumber and could be screwed both to the platform plywood and into the ends of the added blocks. You could also use construction adhesive on the blocks, but then you'd have a problem to 'undo' it if it didn't work for you. You'd probably need 2 maybe 3 equally spaced rows of blocking from 'head' to 'toe' of the plywood platform.

Another way, would be to put angle iron (actually steel) with 2 legs at 90 degrees to each other or angle aluminum across the top and at right angles to the 2"x2" lumber. This might be a bit more expensive, but simpler because you wouldn't need cut-to-fit blocking. I'm guessing that 1"x1" steel or aluminum would be sufficient. Just drill and screw the metal angle to the existing wood. If you try this, you might try just one half way between the top and bottom of the bed platform. It would be easy to remove and add another one or two cross supports using this method.

bed support

I am new to this forum and it seems it has been a problem and other owners have found various solutions. It also seems the bed support design and plywood thickness may have changed from time to time.

Reading this topic, and searching for others, would be worth a look while you are waiting for spring. You're certain to find better ideas than mine!

Just keep in mind, what ever you do, your adding weight to the bed and the shocks may not hold it up

just a thought

I installed a divider also. It really helped. Now that I have seen hitchpins side supports by the nightstand, I will add those. Thanks!!

Any part numbers around for the gas struts to hold the bed up?
