Spare Tire?

While on my first camping trip I noticed that my new TT didn't come with a spare tire. If I had been offered one by the dealer I would have purchased one. Do you have to go thru jayco or are there aftermarket options? Anyone bought a spare tire and rim after the fact at a local tire shop or online?

I can't believe a spare tire is an option. Every vehicle I've ever bought came with a spare, and I just assumed the TT would too.

The 2013 Jayco brochure has spare tire listed as an option, not a standard feature. My trailer has the enclosed underside, so it's not under there. No in any of the storage areas either.

Mine is enclosed underside but the tire is still under there behind the axles in the center.

I didn't know that. My 2014 came with a spare and it's not listed on the invoice as an option/additional cost item... I will say that I bought a new Haulmark enclosed trailer and a spare was not included.

Maybe you should look over your invoice and see if one was listed.
I opted to buy a matching wheel for my spare so if/when I use it I won't have to fix and change again. I didn't buy thru jayco, it was 4 times the price of buying it from a wheel dealer mail order.

It's not standard equipment on a lot of trailers, now-a-days. Often, though, it's included in the "Mandatory Option Package" that most manufacturers make you buy. If it's not in that package, many dealers include it in their "Dealer Prep Package". I swear, if the manufacturers & dealers had their way, they'd make you pay extra for brakes and lighting in the "Mandatory Vehicle Safety Package", and for a roof, walls, & floor in the "Mandatory Comforts of Home Package". Enough with the games! Just build me a trailer I can go camping in! (Said the guy in the Eagle, watching the 26" LED TV, while typing on his lap-top, and sipping a glass of Pinot Noir)!

They play those games because we the consumer are looking to save pinch every cent out of a purchase. It makes the manufacturer cut every corner he can to make his product look cheaper then the competitors product. so that we will buy it. Then we can raise caine when the product is cheapened up. Vicious circle isn't it!!

I checked the paperwork and there's no mention of a spare in the standard equipment or the equipped options. I'll probably just order a spare online. The oem tires are $77 and I'll just get a rim. Does anyone know how to measure the lug pattern? It looks like for 15" tires you can get a 4.5" pattern or a 5" pattern. Does it say anywhere on the rim itself?

Try www.etrailer.com for tires with or without rims, and they show you how to measure for bolt circle diameter too. LW

I may have missed it, but did you actually get under the trailer and look for a spare?

As for buying one, plan on stopping at a reputable tire shop next time you're towing the camper if that's possible for you. Might be safer than measuring yourself if, like me, you're not too sure. http://www.mrt-wheels.com/boltpattern.html

[QUOTE=cekkk;210185]I may have missed it, but did you actually get under the trailer and look for a spare?/QUOTE]

Last night when I go home I got under the camper and looked over the entire underside. There is no tire under there. It was kinda worthwhile though because I got to really check out the tanks, wiring, hoses, axles, brakes framing, etc. I also checked all interior compartments. I even checked the roof - silly I know but hey, leave no stone unturned. When I search for 2013 26BH trailers on youtube I've seen the spares mounted to the rear bumper. I would assume that they would not have multiple spare locations for the same trailer.

I'm planning on measuring the bolt patter when I get home this evening. Hopefully, it will be obvious which lug patter I have. My initial concern was the fact that the patterns are all within 1/4". I'll let you know what I measure.

Checking the roof is not silly. I believe most problems begin at the factory. It's sure smart to check the roof because tears, bad seams or caulking can lead to problems. Best to get to them when they are easy fixes. I really hope your camper was put together as well as ours was. Happy camping.

Looks like 5 on 4.5" pattern. Found a sticker with a part number on the rim and that's what comes up. Dexstar 17-143. Google, what would I do without you?

So I went and picked up a spare tire. Decided $150 was a good insurance policy so I don't spend any more vacation time with a breakdown than necessary. Now where do I put the darn thing? I was hoping there would be a designated spot like there is in a car, but it doesn't look like that's the case.

The spare on my 26BH is mounted on a bolt-on rack on the rear bumper. It was on the tt when I bought it from the dealer.

I was really amazed that my TT didn't come with one. I noticed that starting with the '14 Jay Flights they made the spare part of the mandatory options group. I'm also a little peeved that I have to go buy a mount so I have a place to keep the darn thing. I was hoping for an empty spot under the frame or something. Oh well.

I actually have 2 spares on the back bumper of the tt. I figure if I run over something and flatten both tires (tandem axle) I won't be stuck. Many hardware stores and trailer shops carry the rims and tires as a package. I think I paid about $50 for the set up and since it was a spare I wasn't that concerned about the brand. I also bought another spare carrier for the second tire
