Pinnacle 36 FBTS and 2013 Ram CC 3500 CTD DRW 4 .10 4X4

New to the forum. Got tired of telling DW while shopping for fifth wheels that our 2004 F 350 SRW CC 6.0 that we could not pull a Pinnacle so we upgraded the truck. Intrested in any problems with hitch height with the above combination. Was wondering if anyone was towing a Pinnacle with late model Ram 4x4. I am not worried about tow ratings. Thanks!

4.10 rear end is overkill. And you might hate the millage If it uses urea it will get better millage then the trucks without. I have an 06 and love it. What tans are you going with? I think the cc had the aisin that year. I'm not a fan of automatics but I would consider that one. And congrats on a new truck.

4:10 is not really overkill. If you really look at towing capacities it is a must if you want to haul heavy. I almost pulled the trigger on a used 2012 regular cab with the 6.7 until I checked with RAM and found out towing capacity was only about 13.5k, only about 1k above my Ford. I do not mean any disrespect but the tow capacity on my Ram is 24.9k. My highway fuel economy is between 21 to 22 at about 1700 RPM. Most people really do not look at the tow ratings for their specific model. Then most people are over stressing their truck as well. I have nearly 25k miles on her now and so far is one of the best trucks I have ever owned and the only non-Ford truck I have owned..

I'm not an expert on the model year being looked at and there has been no mention of transmission choice yet. I agree tow ratings are a combination of going, stopping and handling while doing evasive maneuvers.

But in reference to an 06 with a manual, the 373 gears are the same finial gearing as the old NV4500 and NV4600 gear boxes with 4.10 gears. When Dodge change transmissions the old school of thought was thrown out the door. old school of thought was 4.10 towing and 3.5 was a rare option... 3.73 is the new standard and most people complain about the RPM at 60. reference 2000RPM is about 62 MPH in a 6spd, 3.73.

My experience 5.9 06 DRW Manual. 100% Stock I have towed near 26K lbs with no issue for at least 80K miles, truck currently at 115K and no drive issues. I have never wished for 4.10. 7th gear maybe but never a lower one.

Here is a link to the capacity ratings.

I think any gear ratio will work fine for any Jayco 5th wheel, I just don't see 4.10 as being needed, if it is a great deal on the truck buy it. Gear ratios are easy to change if you absolutely hate it. I wouldn't walk away from a great truck due to finial gear ratio.

OP lets see some photos? is the truck Stock?

I pull a 13 eagle with my 13 ram. I had to raise the b&w hitch all the way up and put my pin box in the lowest setting to get bed rail clearance. Later I added 16" wheels but I still need to adjust morryde suspension to get totally level. I'm a little nose high now but not bad. Btw I have 373 gears. It works well for me-lighter camper and I only tow about 15 percent of the time. 30k on truck and I couldn't be happier.

Dave you must have misunderstood my OP but that is likely my fault being new. I already own the listed on the thread title. I do not want to get into a tow rating war! I looked at truck postings for a long time with the battle between axle ratios and SRW versus DRW. I have read many a post where someone did not do their homework and ended up with a truck that would not do the job.

I was incorrect with the rating on my truck earlier. The GCWR is 30,000. Payload is 5,980. Trailer tow rating is 21,790. I have the non Aisin transmission. Using your reasoning i should have bought a 3.42 axle ration and have the following ratings. GCWR 25,000, Payload same. Trailer towing 16,790. Worse i could have chosen your manual transmission and dropped to GCWR of 24,000 and trailer rating of 15,740. I am sure Ram had their reasons for the many different ratings. The above is based on a tradesman CC DRW. It only goes downhill from there as every upgrade in trim package reduces the ratings. I bought a truck that i felt would tow anything i would be comfortable pulling. If i wanted the ultimate i would have gotten the Aisin tranny and went to 37,500 GCWR and 29,130 towing. I can only guess that axle ratios do matter.

Ah OK. . I knew we were talking different things. I was thinking cab chaise vs pickup truck. which for dodge is a way different truck.
Looks like dodge uses the term crew cab but my year they called it a quad cab. and mega cab Lol. In any case it is a great truck.

I Towed my previous 5th wheel (Pinnacle36REQS) with my SRW 4wd 2012 Dodge it matched up great for me without a lot of adjustment. Believe I adjusted the Pin box down one level.
