Mileage
We are going to pickup our Jayco Melbourne next week and take in a 15 day trip. Just curious what kind of milage can we expect on the flats driving at 55 miles an hour if anyone still drives at 55 mph.

mpg
On the last trip we took, over two passes and 900 miles averaged 8.4 mpg going 58 mph on the flats towing.

Thanks for the info. We are taking delivery on ours next week, we were hoping for about 32 mpg (in a dream).

Maybe with a 100 mph tail wind...

The "happy Spot" on our unit is around 58 MPH, and we get between 9 and 10 MPG. Of course it depends on terrain, winds, etc. We get a bit better mileage and a bit more power when we can fill up with ethanol free fuel... wish they would get rid of the ethanol!

I tend to drive 58-60 mph. Our Greyhawk when loaded gets 8-9 mpg depending on wind direction and speed.

2012 Greyhawk, 7-8 @ 55mph. Towing 4,100# toad. Mileage varies with wind conditions and terrain.

I have a '99 Eagle 283G. I get 7.2 with a head wind and 8.6 with a tail wind. I don't tow anything.

OK, I seem to have a bit of a problem. Our 2011 Greyhawk 31 FK gets about 6.5 to 7.0 mpg at 60 mph pulling a Nissan Frontier pickup. Why am I getting lower mileage than everyone else?

We have the same MH, just a later year model, and we saw 8 and 9 mpg on my two measured runs last fall. But while we were running about the same speed, our FK was not towing anything. That's the only difference I see.
Have you ever checked your mileage not towing the Nissan?

When running without the toad we were driving at 65 to 70 mph. Now we run at 58-60 mph to save gas. Mileage was about 7 or so. So yes, the toad takes off a bit of the mpg but not a whole lot. It still seems low compared with everyone else.

Are you writing down the miles and gallons and calculating the MPG over a period of several tanks of fuel or using a MPG gauge on the vehicle?

I use the miles driven since the last Fillup divided by the gallons taken to fillup. I realize that this method has error related to whether the tank is filled to the same level each time and whether the service station lot is level or not. But I consistently get between 6.5 to 7.0 mpg. Perhaps the engine needs some type of adjustment.

Bob, I don't think you are that far off. I'm getting 7-8, towing 4,100# and faithfully keeping my speed at 55 mph. On the higher end of that if the terrain is flat and I'm not facing a headwind, and on the low end if it's the opposite. I never noticed much difference between towing and not towing and I sometimes do not take a tow vehicle. But I do agree with the other comments that it's best to look at this over an extended period and not get worried about what one or two tanks may reveal. I do keep track of each tank (2012 Greyhawk 31SS) and mileage has varied from 6.96 to a high (one time only) of 9.33 with an average over that period of 7.87 (4,778 miles driven, 606.95 gallons pumped).
