Air Compressor / Battery Jump Starter

I was looking at buying a small 12v air compressor, but ran across the Stanley 1000-amp Peak Jump Starter with Compressor. Walmart and Amazon have it for the same price ($69). All of the air compressors I was looking at with decent reviews were around $40-50. I was wondering if others on here have tried this one or if what you use.

Because of the battery, the combined unit weighs almost twice as much.


Personally, I carry neither. My shop at home allows keeping my stuff ready to do 1,000 mile trips. Field repairs with duct tape and what can be had locally. Then make proper repairs at home.


To me, small toys that pretend to be tools and fail when you need them are worse than useless.

I carry a small 12 volt powered air compressor. It is very slow, but does put air in a tire eventually. We once had two flats at the same time, and only one spare. I replaced one tire with the spare, and used the battery operated air compressor to put air into the flat tire with the smallest hole. We made it to a tire shop successfully.

Without that inadequate, slow, noisy air compressor, we could not have made it as well.

Curiosity.... how did you get 2 flats at the same time?

I have a different brand one, and really like it. I primarily use it around the house. It has a bit of size and weight to it. The compressor works quite well, thou a bit slower.

I carry a 12V Slime brand air compressor. Really like it. I installed a power point behind the refrigerator access panel. Now it is really easy to fill any tire.

This is what I conjecture happened. I think a belt broke, and before I noticed it the tire got hot and shredded. On the same side, the other tire got hot due to overloading - since the other tire was gone - and it started leaking somewhere.

Shortly after this happened, I bought a TPMS!

I think two flats at one time are not uncommon; if the tire in front runs over some sharp metal object, the tire right behind it probably will, too. That could have happened, too.

I use one these 12VDC tankless MV50 Portable air compressor (AMAZON)...
Comes with a nice tote and sits under my truck rear seat setup.


Just the right size for me and sitting on the tail gate of the truck the coiled up hose will walk around my trailer tires. Also the perfect source of air for blowig out the trailer water lines when winterizing... Since this is tankless it takes time for the pressure to build up and this is great for providing BLOW OUT ait for the water lines...

Being 12VDC it works everywhere we are at...

I have one of these: Schumacher Electric 6-in-1 Jump Starter - Walmart.com
And am happy with it. I have not used the compressor much if at all, but for jumping a battery and providing portable power for small items it's pretty handy.
