31 BHS power cord

Power cord actually came out of trailer while driving. Frayed and worn through, plug damaged. How big of a job is it to replace cord? If I do can I make it a 40' with 10 guage Romex and new plug?
Thanks..

easy job....get the wire. unhook the old wire from converter. hook new wire up and put male end on. Likely a few videos on google to look at.You can make however long you like. Just remember it has to fit in a certain spot. Extra cord may cause an issue

Make sure the next time you are storing the cable to push one of the prongs of the plug all the way past the notched plastic inside the cover and that the lid is snapped shut. That way it can't go back in or come out. I have done it that way with 1000 of miles with my pup and hybrid and never had it come out

Thanks. Can I just use 10g Romex or are we looking at a special wire? Get to converter through outside or am I tearing out the breaker panel?

Don't use romex...you would never be able to pull it in and out to use very well.

use 10/3 STW cable.....Camping world has them all done up which would be the cheapest way

You would have to pull the converter out to unhook the wires. Camping world has the hatches as well

Or since you are already a victim you might just go all in for the mod to remove it. Here is link with great instructions and parts needed.

+1 Agree that using Romex is not a good way to do it and if you want what you had then buy the premade so it's weather tight.

Yeah you do not want to use Romex in this application.

With most RV's the point of shore cable connection has to be accessed from the inside.

The actual shore cable wire connection point varies from one model to another..., but many applications the wires terminate at a junction box close to where the shore cable is coiled (stored), but prior to the converter/charger.

The suggestion that "3'senough" made is a great alternative.

Bigger problems..the entire trailer is now "live ". Using a grounded plug yields zero power, using a non grounded plug makes every metal surface tingle..totally confused and frustrated..ideas?

Did you just replace the male plug end? Did you inspect the entire line for any additional damage? Green = ground to the green screw, Neutral = White to the silver screw and the Black = hot to the black or brass screw. Double check your wiring of the plug end if that is all you did. If more then maybe time to call in an electrician before someone gets hurt. Not a good thing to have a hot skin.

I would not recommend going longer than the factory when you complete repairs.
As stated above it won't all fit and the longer cord causes more amp loss. Lots CG are already amp challenged. Sure sometimes you need a longer cord but use the available ext length cords only when necessary. And as stated above try to place plug where it's hard to get loose and fall out.
I had to pull the trailer up a couple feet a while back so I could clean under it. Asked wife if all was good as I pulled up. Tire rolled over power cord and pulled the plug out of the camper. I was not a happy camper.
As stated above it sounds like your not wired correctly or have a lose wire at the converter.

Since you have to do all this why not make it a plug in cord?(Twist lock) Seems like a good time for the upgrade.

I cringe at the thought of having to replace or cord... the converter is under the fridge on the curb side, over the axles, the cord comes out road side behind the back walk of the shower. It snakes behind the tub surround, around the outside wall, down under the water heater, and into the fridge compartment. I've got 20ft of cord inside the camper!
