Travel Trailer Insurance

I had to purchase an insurance policy for my HTT since it has a lien on it. I'm paying $348 for the year which includes: other than collision, collision, vacation liability, Traveline towing/roadside assistance, emergency expense, scheduled medical benefits, personal property and total loss replacement cost.
My question is, do most owners carry an insurance policy on their unit and is this a comparable price?
Thanks!

As far as insurance costs go , not sure wether you added this to your existing policy or bought it seperately but at that cost per year and what your getting for it seems comperable to me

Yes I carry insurance, a separate policy with the coverages you mention. I'm a little lower in price -- but that could be the difference on where we live.

We are required to have insurance on all trailers but basic insurance/ licence is only around $50 a year. I have collision too which brings it up to $200 and something.

Do you have replacement insurance?...my policy is over $300.00 plus $76.00 for licence fee. I carry 1 mil liability and $30,000 replacement for collision and theft

Yes, we carry the same insurance as you mention on our 5er. Cost is a little under $200 for all. Also, I am told that your homeowner's insurance automatically covers 10% of its value in personal belongings, regardless of location, which includes stuff you take with you in the TT or 5er while camping.

Ours is tacked on to the auto/homeowner package with Allstate. It is near $150 every 6 mo. Comparable to what you stated.

In the same range as what I pay for coverage with GEICO on our WhiteHawk, though I do not have the replacement cost rider. So yes, sounds like you are getting good value for the premium paid, though the only way you'll know for sure is to file a claim. Hope that doesn't happen................

Either I have very little coverage or I'm getting a heck of a deal for $120 PER YEAR! I talked to my agent recently and my policy will cover rodent damage on my trailer or any of my automobiles as well.

I've been with State Farm since 1991 and have my homeowners policy with them as well so maybe there is a discount associated with that.

We carry "full coverage" insurance on our 1997 314BHS even though there is no loan on it. It's pretty cheap if you think about it. I think our policy is less than $100 a year.
The hardest part about getting insurance for us is telling them what the replacement value of the camper is. Even though we paid much less than the "stated value" we still would be paid what the stated value is, in the event a total loss would occur (minus the deductable)

Next year i'll take a look at possibly adding it through homeowners or auto but I only had 15 days to purchase the insurance and the guy i used was recommended by the RV dealer i purchased the unit from.

I insure with Progressive for $290 annually- with about the same coverage as you minus roadside assistance. Have Good Sam for that.

I'm a little worried.. We just bought ours a couple weeks ago and I called my insurance company (Liberty Mutual) to make sure I had coverage before I left the lot. All I covered was replacement with a $250 deductible. Cost: $12.00 per year. Remainder of this year: $3.00. Clearly I'm doing something wrong, what is it???

Ours is around $300 per year and it is added on to our auto policy. Does cover replacement value as well. We also have homeowner's with same company so get a break for bundling. We have a brand new 2014 Jayco Eagle 33.5RETS. Sounds like you are getting a good deal.

Just guessing but that's prolly for the remaining time left on your auto policy which prolly is about due for renewal.

My sister works for Liberty Mutual and she only pays like $10 per year. I think most of us are getting ripped off. My agent told me that (despite the stories and photos of RV wrecks on the forum) RV collision losses are pretty rare. Comprehensive claims, however, are more common...rodents, tree branches, hail damage, etc..

$10-12 a year hardly covers postage and paper let alone the time invoved in handling a policy. $10 -12 a month I could believe though. My premium is $185 a year.

List your agents name and number. A whole lot of us will be calling if you can insure your TT for $12 a year.

That's why I asked the question. What are you getting that I am not? I know I'm covered for replacement cost, But not contents. 90% of the time there is less that $100 worth of personal stuff in it. The rest of the time personal stuff might amout to $500. It is a 16 foot trailer but the price seems way to cheap. Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread. Should I start a new one?
