Blowing fuse on Elect Tounge Jack

Taking this back to the dealer is the easy way - I'd like to see if I can solve something before I rely on others.... I've read these, and other forums about similar problems, with no solution.

We have a 2015 19RD of which I've blown the 30amp fuse by the batteries (two 6V) about 5 times in the last 3 months. I've learned - if you extend the jack either way too much, it'll blow a fuse. I've checked the bolts for good connection, as it's the way it's grounded ... it's making a good connection. Just brought the trailer back from dealer for some other warranty work yesterday morning, and the trailer sits in my driveway currently with the jack not working. I mentioned to the dealer that I'm blowing fuses (but it worked fine while at the dealer), - since it worked OK while there, he just pointed out that I shouldn't raise/lower to the limits.. It works fine when hooked up to my truck, and still does, but this time after unhooking the truck, it stopped working and the fuse is fine .... I even replaced the fuse and it still dzn't work.

I'm not an electrician or mechanic - just a guy that wants to raise and lower his trailer without wondering if this will happen again.

Is it time to take it back to the dealer again, or are there other things I should look at myself?

On mine I learned the hard way that I can blow a fuse if I extend jack to far so I dont do that anymore I place a block on the ground then I dont have to extened it as far . but I also had a problem of jack not working and the fuse was good. What happened was water got into head of jack and worked its way down to the switch and the switch went bad so I took it apart and replaced the switch. not a easy job but now it works. I also rebuilt a frends jack he had the same thing happen switch went bad so now when parked there is a bucket over head of jack.

Check into a 30 amp blade style circuit breaker. It will cut out but will automatically reset itself.

We had this problem too, we now use at least one 6" high wood block underneath. I think hubby also discovered that there was a bad connection to the battery and it wasn't actually the fuse that was being blown (found this out after replacing about 5-6 fuses!)

Also check that the jack is grounding properly. Most of the jacks are grounded via the mounting (screws). My jack was acting up occasionally but noticed a little rust around the grounding screw..., cleaned the surfaces up, no problems since.

I do keep a leather 'sock' over the top of the jack as well.

I use several blocks of wood- but raising it to high would blow it so a piece of black electric tape around it marks the stop. Instill carry a handful of fuses anyway!lol

Also, if you try to change directions before the jack comes to a full stop the fuse will blow.

I had a similar problem 2 years ago. My fuse was one of those glass type and the holder it sat in was alittle too big and I guess when the fuse moved in the holder as you used the jack it would blow. I replaced the glass 30 amp fuse and holder with a blade type 30 amp fuse and holder and have not had an issue yet.

What do you do when the jack freezes? We JUST GOT back from buying our 2014. Electronic jack worked fine at the dealer, got back home and electronic part works but lift does not go up or down, it is like it is locked??!!! I am so pissed!

What 2014 unit do you have?

If it is a travel trailer, see if you can operate the jack manually. Hopefully you have the manual crank. There is a rubber plug on top of the electric jack; remove that and insert the crank handle and operate the jack manually.

Locked up either way. Won't turn at all, almost as if it is all locked up not something?! Motor works just won't drop leg down. Hand crank won't turn it seems frozen.

Just out of curiosity has anyone changed there 30 amp fuse for a 30 amp circuit breaker. Its real easy to blow the fuse this would eliminate that.Let off the switch and wait a moment for it to reset and you are good to go.

I notice yesterday when dropping off the trailer, the jack seem very loud, like grinding not liking the sound of that.
I will phone the dealership, this the second one on this trailer.
There is no way service these jacks

Glad you got it working!

Suggestion: Get a small plastic waste basket and put it upside down over the top of the jack. The waste basket will keep water out of the jack and can be used to hang the safety chains and the electrical connector.
