I always approach these forums as an exchange of ideas. That is what is happening here.

I stay away from forums where members are criticizing someone's opinion because it is not identical to theirs. Freedom of speech means you have the right to say it but it also means I have the right to ignore it.

If you don't want to do it my way, so be it. That's why we live in this country.

Or should I do a "what ever" comment back as well?

.
The "whatever" was a polite way to both dismiss your comment essentially saying you know all about Jayco flooring just because you tore down your 2006 and to say I really don't want to argue with you anymore since I don't really see it going anywhere but since you pushed...

I do not recall anyone saying anything about doing only a portion the floor. Whether the added weight would put one over the limit would depend on how close they are already. Different TTs have different cargo capacities. Different people have different needs. A single man and a dog is going to need far less cargo than a family of four with a dog. Boondockers are going to have far less cargo capacity than site campers because of the weight of the water they will be carrying in their tanks. Without knowing how much spare cargo capacity someone has, I cannot responsibly recommend to anyone to do any modifications that could significantly increase the weight of the trailer.

I never said making a floor better is a bad thing. I'm just saying that here it is unnecessary and will reduce the amount of cargo one can haul. Your comparison to a stick house is inappropriate for reasons I've already explained. A little flex in a floor isn't going to hurt the floor. If the floor is excessively soft for any reason other than a little normal flex, then it needs to be replaced, not covered over.

As I said, Jayco doesn't make all their trailer floors the way yours was made. Also, I'm sure some changes have been made in the past five years as well.

I'm dropping out of this discussion before it gets any uglier.

I think the OP`s questions and concerns have been addressed. Some very good points and suggestions have been made. I hope they get the floor fixed soon to their satisfaction, any help from a manufacturer on a 2007 unit would be a longshot at best. Good luck with the floor, Cranberry.

I believe that in home construction they use " luan" over the first layer of plywood ,screwed every 6 ", then installing the vinal . The luan is about 1/4" inch thick therefore very lightweight.

Gluing reduces the chances that problems can develop..
Floating flooring is the main reason the coverings split.. My first TT cracked.. now I winterize my TT by parking under a palm tree ..problem solved ..for me

2007 27BH split floor

I have a 2007 JayFlight 27BH and its permanently parked at our camp and I went to the camp yesterday just to check things out and I was very disappointed when I saw my vinyl floor had cracked and tooled up from the fridge to the back bunk and also the plastic trim piece around the fridge had broken.. A friend of mine has an '08 26 BH and his floor did the same a few years back... So looks like I have a job to do before I can enjoy my summer get away

I had this happen on my 2008 19h camper. This was discovered in the spring of 2009.

I should mention that I live in Saskatchewan, Canada, and the over winter temperatures can and do reach as low as -35c, and for very prolonged periods of time.

My camper was in warranty, and the flooring was replaced under warranty. Actually replaced twice, the first job was terrible, so i pushed to have it redone.

I was told by my vendor that Jayco had done a perimeter glue only and not a full glue down. This same dealer told me that Jayco now does a full glue-down to counteract this problem.

The repair was done by removing the toilet, using a flooring knife to score the floor around all the cabinetry and the old flooring removed. The new floor was cut to size, full-glued down and then a nice caulk used at all cabinets..... As stated the first job was terrible, the installer left a soft spot, they tried to correct it, but made it worse, so I pushed until it was redone. After repair, the problem never occured in the next couple of years.

It's not just a Jayco issue. My old 2010 27BH Dutchmen Sport vinyl flooring had split in two different places. After fixing it myself I traded it in for my Jayco 2006 29FBS which I'm very happy with. When I tore up the flooring I noticed it was only tacked along the the edges. No glue and cheaper vinyl flooring. This must be the way for the manufactures to keep cost down on their lower end RV units. Never had this problem with my 19H or 29FBS units. Hope you get yours fixed soon. Happy Camping

I just went and checked my 2008 19BH and the vinyl floor is split across from cupboards to under table.
I live in northwestern Ontario and this is the coldest winter in over 20 years.

I'm a new member to the forum, but since I own a 2007 26BHS, I was curious and read this thread one of the first times I logged on and thought, "how curious, never had that problem, knock on wood.". We purchased this TT brand new in '07 and camp 25-30 nights on average each year.

Today I went out to check on the trailer for the first time since we used it as a guest quarters over Christmas. The vinyl floor is split right down the center from the entertainment center all the way back to the bathroom. We did have sub zero temps for about 10 days back in January and with wind chill in excess of -40 degrees. I'm guessing it happened then. I'm kicking myself for not bringing in the slide after our guests left, it may have made the difference. F.Y.I. The vinyl does NOT appear to be glued down.

The white clumps you see in the pic is snow I tracked in just now. The unit is completely winterized and dry otherwise.

I live in New Brunswick, Canada where temps drop below zero often during our winters. I just checked up on my 2003 Jayco RBS 28' Fiver and found that our vinyl floor had split. I'm devastated but I plan on just gluing it back down and moving on. I could get it replaced but not in the budget and I feel that if I do a careful job and not make a mess of it, it shouldn't kill too much resale value. I agree with the comments made about Jayco, they just bought the vinyl and installed it, they didn't make it. However, I feel they should've made an effort to research what quality of material they purchased considering the fact that their RV's are sold in colder climates as well as warmer ones.
I feel bad that this sort of thing happened to me and any one else but I also feel the blame should be thrown at the company that made the vinyl and the colder climates, not at Jayco( I'm just saying). I wonder if our house kitchen floor was put outdoor all winter what kind of condition would one find it in? My bet is that it would split as well sooner or later. If we Jayco owners were rich we could build heated storages for our toys and not worry about pipes freezing and floors splitting and rodents chewing and and and...

I went to the dealer and explained what happened with our floor and asked who they used to make that type of flooring repair. I called the repairman and he told me I was the fourth call in the last week he had received for a split floor in an RV. I don't think it has anything to do with Jayco and everything to do with extreme temp fluctuations. We had more than -30 with wind chill. The repairman told me the manufacturers have gone from floating to gluing and back to floating. All methods seem to still have the issue of cracking, usually starts at a heat register and runs the length of the trailer, very common. He told me to look at replacing it with fiberglass backed vinyl. He was having good luck with the fiberglass back. He doesn't sell the material, installer only.

Guess we'll take a look at what the flooring stores in Missoula have for fiberglass backed vinyl. Spring project #2. They are starting to pile up. :-) I can't wait!

And that's all I know.

I called State Farm, damage from extreme cold NOT covered. Interesting that my next door neighbor, 2008 Jayco had the same incident occur. Vinyl installer recommended a fiberglass backed vinyl and to glue it down. As of yesterday and $740 later the results look great!

Finally repaired. I have $740 less in my bank account, but the results are worth it. Check out the pics.

Big Sky,

Did you glue your new flooring down or is it a floater...., and what material did you end up going with?
