Building a Jayco Trailer in 6 hours

WOW, Looking on you tube came acrosss this. Do they build all there trailers this way the 5vers and the Eagles.

They have been building them quickly with a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty for a very long time. Guess they know what they are doing..

The tack time for a car/truck assembly line is 50 seconds, which means every 50 seconds, another one comes off the line, 24 hours a day, for 5 and sometimes 6 days a week. How do you feel about your car and/or truck?

There have been countless discussions about that video on various forums. I always point out that the FINAL assembly might have only taken 6 hours or so but the fact that the walls, frame, running gear, cabinets, roof trusses, appliances, windows, furniture, and various other components were pre assembled before the FINAL assembly makes the TRUE assembly time considerably more then 6 hours IMO. The unit featured is also a Jayflight 26BH, one of the less complex designs that Jayco makes, with no slides.

X2, Lee. And a car or truck takes a LOT longer than 50 seconds to build, for the same reasons. I was told that my Ford 6.8L V-10 engine, for example, takes almost an hour to build on its assembly line, long before it gets to the final assembly line of the truck.

If one is not careful, it can be destroyed in less time than it took to build!

So apparently the video been discussed. And you are right crab man ,they show it all pre made then put together. I just thought it was amazing they could build such quality in that time its awesome. Well David472 I love my Ford super duty diesel and I never new that about the manufacturing of cars. Modern technology go figure. Although I have not used my new camper yet I absolutely love it.. I love my TV and TT. Well anyway thanks for the info. JAYCO. ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

I would add, although one car/truck comes off the line every 50 seconds, that line is a mile or two long when stretched out straight. From the start of the line to the end of the line takes around 10 hours or so, depending on the complexity of the line. Of course, just as Lee pointed out, and as seen in the Jayco video, many sub-assemblies are already complete before the final assembly line, and have their own build times. Being inside a final assembly plant when it's in full swing is a wonder to behold. I think Jayco has inside tours, and if you're ever traveling by their plant, go have a look. I know I would love doing that one day!

I work in an automotive manufacturing plant, and our tak time is 94 seconds. Same scenerio, one off the end of the line every 94 seconds. One thing to remember too is that we have about 600 people each with a 94 second tak time.

Been in a few of the plants in Indiana and it's quite a site. If you ever have the chance for a plant tour take it. At the end of that video you see a woman wiping down the dust, that's funny because I've never seen so much sawdust as there is after hauling a trailer from the plant to the dealer. Everything shakes loose on that first tow!

The tak time I mentioned, applies to 2 plants near here which I frequently went into as a tier-one supplier. One produces a mid sized car, the other a mid sized SUV. As you know, the tak time is adjusted up or down occasionally, to meet the market demands. The 50 seconds is the fastest we have ever had to meet, and 60 seconds is the slowest I had observed.

Jayco has a great factory tour! Everything except the trailer frames and major equipment are made by Jayco in Middlebury,IN. If your in the area this tour is worth the time to see. Every 10th trailer off the line goes thru a full test. If anything is found wrong or not up to their standards the other 9 units go thru a full inspection.My wife and i took the tour in 2008.

The trailer being assembled at the 1:38-1:42 doesn't look like a bunkhouse...maybe they threw in a clip from another assembly line.
