Planning Trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone

Hey guys, Planning a trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone around the last week of May 2015 (before the kids get out of school). Any recommendations on RV campgrounds to stay at (both parks) ?

Will be coming from Southern Nevada.

Thanks in advance

also from vegas, best bet is to stay in brigham city, real nice campground right off the brigham city exit on the 15, next daydrive to park, in the park stay at fishing bridge campground you need to reserve now, check with park as to dates they don't open until late may because of snow, fishing bridge is best because it is right in the middle of the park all private parks are way outside the park and most are not to nice, bring bear spray, on the way leave thru south end of park to grand tetons, pretty scenery , we usually stay near jackson hole, or drive straight thru to park city ,utah we have done this several times, yellowstone is a must book early- bring warm cloths

We stayed at Grant's Village in Yellowstone NP, and Colter Bay at Grand Teton NP. We were very satisfied with both. We got one of the higher priced sites (which really aren't expensive) at Colter Bay and it was worth every penny in convenience.

The area behind the asphalt pad was several inches of gravel so there wouldn't be any standing water. (We were there 5 days and didn't see any rain.) The gravel was contained by a concrete barrier. We set up a screen tent there.

Didn't care to much for Fishing Bridge CG. Units are stuffed in there like cord wood. I would look into some of the other CGs in the park, there are several, not with hookups but much more roomy and quiet.

Just my $.02

I think its going to be very cold in May. But would highly recommend drive from Yellowstone to Cody. That was the best 50 mile drive ever. Have a great time! My wife and I enjoy that area so much.

It's been a while but we stayed at a nice KOA just west of West Yellowstone. When ya get up near sunrise the mountains surrounding the area are beautiful.

We've been six times in the last eight years and always stay at Flagg Ranch in Moran. It's now called Headwaters. It's between YNP and GTNP off of the Rockefeller Expressway. You have to drive through GTNP to get to it. It has full hook-ups, a small lodge with restaurant, convenience store, and gas. We never cared for the campgrounds inside the parks.

Some friends stayed at the Flagg Ranch this fall and gave it good reviews.

We are also planning a trip to Yellowstone and GTNP (July 2015). We've made reservations at Colter Bay Village already and are trying to work out our Yellowstone plans.

Excluding Fishing Bridge, what are the best "reservation" campgrounds in Yellowstone NP? We like Canyon Village (bathrooms, showers and laundry) and Madison (no facilities). Any concerns with either of these with a large travel trailer (37-feet)?

Below is a link to camping info in Yellowstone. Some have length restrictions.

Everyone who has been to Yellowstone has a favorite spot, and someone else didn't care for it. I guess that's the way the world works. Being a very popular destination for a short tourist season means they have to try and satisfy millions of visitors in a short span. Being in the mountains presents more limitations. Campsite space is limited to accommodate as many people as they can.

The good news for us was we didn't do much more than sleep in our TT at Grant's Village. There is always something new to see or do there. The site was big (deep), but parking was close. Yellowstone is going to be crowded in the good weather months, but you will still have a great time.

When I mentioned to DW we were doing a Yellowstone thread on the forum, she said "Tell them to bring food". Food is available, but it's expensive.

Also, I would go the park's site and browse it thoroughly for the details that interest you. Those folks have entertained so many guests they pretty much have things figured out and most of your questions have already been answered.

a must see

we stayed at the west Y koa, it was the closest to the park, VERY nice CG. you should take a drive on the Beartooth Mtn road, off the NE entrance road to Y NP. Charles Kuralt called it one of the most beautiful drives in US. Do not drive your MH on it, just your toad. Well worth it.Security: Password 48

We stayed at Colter Bay in 2013 for three days and loved it...people we're friendly and it was very scenic. We then spent the rest of our week long vacation at Fishing Bridge. Not the best NP RV park that we've stayed at, but it was central to many of the areas we wanted to see in Yellowstone. Enjoy the Tetons and Yellowstone...two unforgettable destinations!

We went in early May around 20 years ago and it was beyond beautiful. There was a lots of snow and a few places were not open yet but no a problem. We have been back several times since but my favorite was early May. No matter when you go it will be great.

Need to talk to DW about going back.

I have stayed at Yellowstones Edge RV Park on US 89 S between Livingston Mt and YNP for years. Excellent RV park in every respect with helpful owners Pam and Chan Libbey. 30 miles from north entrance to the park, close to Chico Hot Springs Resort.

Totally agree! Stay in the park, but at one of the other campgrounds.
